K2 worked with the late, great Doug Coombs—legendary extreme skier, ski mountaineer, and pioneering heli guide—to create the Apache Coomba, a ski equally suited to Telemark, Alpine, and AT skiing. This backcountry / powder ski's 102mm waist and torsion box construction provide excellent floatation and easy handling for tackling steep faces across the globe. Coombs gave his signature ski a balanced flex pattern for predictability in breakable crust and other less-than-ideal conditions. A progressive sidecut ensures the Coomba still has enough power for the groomers or wind pack. A MOD secondary elastomeric core under the top sheet soaks up vibration and chop when straight lining exit chutes. Doug Coombs died in La Grave France, doing what he loved—skiing steeps. K2 gives a percentage of all Apache Coomba sales to his wife and son, and will also donate to the Chad Vanderham Endowment, a non-profit focused on improving guide education and safety.

Best Non-Rockered Ski Ever

These skis are the best I have ever ridden...189 Coombas float incredibly well for a non-rocker, yet CHARGE through the mank no problem.

TELE SKIERS BEWARE THOUGH...I have pulled bindings out of two pairs of Coombas and had to switch to the Anti Piste with K2 Inserts.

Truly a shame as these skis are indeed a tribute to Coombs. They Rip.

Is there a difference between the k2 apache coomba alpine and telemark ski?

Responded on

I don't think you're asking about the anti-piste (as suggested in the previous answer), but rather the fact that the coomba is categorized as both an alpine ski and a touring ski. There is no difference between the two, K2 has just intended for it to be used in both applications. The K2 Anti-piste has the same dimensions as the Coomba, but a slight rocker in the tip and the inserts for mounting a tele binding without drilling.
