No one buys a mountain bike thinking about what they don’t want to do with it. More than ever, mountain bikes are morphing into do-it-all machines, and the Juliana Furtado 2.0 Carbon S Complete Mountain Bike has been one of the most competent of all since it was introduced. Rally over flowy singletrack and clean up burly lines with the Furtado and you’ll have more fun than ever after the significant, but purposeful changes Juliana made to the bike this year.
Readying the Furtado for more destructive territory required a change in front end geometry, so Juliana slackened the head tube angle while steepening the seat tube angle and extending the reach. These changes improve your pedaling position on the flats and climbs, without impacting the stability established by the long-and-low front end. Along the rear triangle, beefier Boost rear spacing allowed Juliana to shorten and stiffen the chainstays, lending the frame the ability to slip around switchbacks and pick through obstacle-laden lines with finesse while barreling through the bigger stuff.
Though the frame is capable, it can’t show its full strength without the reinforcement of a suspension that matches its versatility. Prepare for a smoother pedaling platform from the improved VPP3 suspension, which responds consistently even after repeated bumps and bigger hits. When paired with the RockShox Pike fork and Fox Float shock, you get 5mm of additional squish and most importantly, the chance to have a lot more fun on more diverse terrain.
Juliana rounds out the Furtado 2.0 Carbon S with an enviable build kit, featuring Shimano SLX hydraulic brakes, a SRAM drivetrain, and a RockShox dropper post for seamless transitions between climbs and descents. You’ll enjoy all of the lightness and snappiness of carbon with the Furtado’s expert Carbon C construction, while taking on only a few extra grams for a significant decrease in price over the lighter Carbon CC.
