The Julbo Nomad Cameleon Sunglasses use polarized, photochromic lenses to automatically adjust to visible light for excellent vision anywhere on the mountain. The Julbo's category 3-4 lenses remain dark when you're making the approach in bluebird weather and automatically lighten up as cloud cover obscures the sun during your summit push. Interchangeable molded side shields make the Nomad Cameleon sunglasses an ideal choice for mountaineers and alpine climbers, while the sporty looks are well suited to a day on the ski hill.

Bottom Line: Bring a new look and cutting-edge lens technology to the mountains with the Julbo Nomad Cameleon Sunglasses.

Great Shades Except When Climbing Volcanoes.

I purchased these shades because I needed a replacement pair for high climbing. They are everything they claim to be: light, tight, tough and definitely worth the investment. I did have to take them off every now and then when crossing rocky terrain and hard lava flows. Because of reduced contrast and dark lenses, it was difficult to navigate the rough landscape. This is probably because it was a very sunny day and we were crossing lava beds/rocky terrain which tend to have very dark surfaces. That being said, these glasses are a must have if you want to protect your eyes at high altitudes.

Here is most of what you need to know. During a recent hike in the Andes up to 16,000ft I twice went looking for my sunglasses, and I was wearing them! They’re lightweight, good fit even without nose pads, good light transmission for all but the deep forest and twilight. No sore spots around the nose or ears even after a week of wearing them continuously (during the day of course!). I never used the side shields as the normal shape was sufficient. I'll try the shields this winter on snow.
