    Based off the legendary pow-surfing shape of the original Hovercraft, the Jones Hovercraft Splitboard rules the backcountry with effortless float and powerful edgehold. As its name implies, the Hovercraft delivers mind-blowing performance in deep, untracked powder. However, don't be fooled by this seemingly single-minded powder board. The Hovercraft Splitboard slices through crud, cruises over bumps, and holds an edge in hardpack with razor-sharp precision, thanks to its Mellow Magne-Traction edges, responsive camber underfoot, and mid-stiff flex pattern. Its large, blunted nose rises early, courtesy of the board's Directional Rocker. This blunted nose, in conjunction with a subtle swallowtail and substantial set-back stance, makes the Hovercraft Splitboard an absolute blast on epic powder days. Add in a slight dose of taper (11-12mm, depending on size), for a board that's extremely buoyant on those chest-deep days, keeping the nose up and planing in an almost unsinkable fashion, without any back-foot burn whatsoever.

    Inside this pow-crushing touring machine, the Classic Core features a full, tip-to-tail poplar for solid durability and plenty of snap. Eliminating plastics and lacquers from the board's topsheet, the timeless Bamboo topsheet adds extra dampening when you're blasting through rough, chopped-up conditions. Biax fiberglass is reinforced with carbon stringers for added torsional rigidity and pop. Rounding things out, the Sintered 7000 base is incredibly tough and super-fast, helping you glide through low-angle pow stashes when your friends are bogging down.

    New for this year is the Jones' Quick Tension Tail, which integrates with their climbing skins for a lightweight, easy-clipping solution. Another split-friendly feature, both inside and outside edges feature Mellow Magne-Traction for precise edgehold when you're side-hilling up hardpack and blasting down icy faces.

    Pow-Slayer Extraordinaire

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    I got to test out this board on a 2 day hut trip, and experienced pretty much every condition imaginable. This thing is super light and floaty on the skin track up, which is nice when you're carrying 60 lbs on your back. It's way wider than skin tracks from skis, but pretty much the same width as a skin track made from my fellow splitboarders. I really was impressed with how well it climbed.

    Of course the best part was the descent. I wish I had taken it to a resort for a day before the trip, because it took a few lines to get used to the radically different shape. Once I got used to it, the ride was simply amazing. This thing really floats like a hovercraft. It literally takes that beautiful feeling of riding untouched powder and cranks it up to 10. The nice thing about this board is it does pretty decently on non-pow, and broke through the crust and mixed conditions on the skin track down. This thing is also crazy maneuverable because it's so short. To summarize: second to none on powder, and totally acceptable on everything else.

    I don't think I'd buy the non-split version of this board for resort days, unless I planned on having a couple of boards around. However, I would buy this thing a million times over for backcountry days, which is the whole point of a splitboard. Hell, I may even use it for deep resort days.

    Also, my die-hard telemarker ski bum buddy asked me what size bindings it was because after watching me having so much fun doing big s-turns he was dieing to try it out. How's that for an endorsement.

    I bought this for my husband, so his feedback is as follows:
    This deck is a huge upgrade from my old Voile split-- it's insanely light with Karakoram bindings which I previously shrugged off the importance of but it saved me so much energy for having fun shredding downhill. It's flexible enough to be playful regardless of snowpack and stiff enough to not bail on you when you need it to perform. I'm 5'9" and got the 152 and I'm having so much fun with riding a shorter split in the backcountry.

    Amazing Split

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    Borrowed this board from my bc buddy on numerous occasions and fell in love with it. It shouldn't be possible but this splitboard is just as good on hardpack and variable as it is in deep pow. I rode the 160 through all kinds of conditions - blower pow, concrete pow, chunder, soft-pack, hard pack, ice, and summer slush on Rainier. This board handles them all in a stiff, responsive ride that is highly stable and manouverable. The camber allows you to load up and accelerate the board through any condition, and it won't lose an edge even on ice. When you look at this board you expect it to do good in pow but really lose it's capability in the variable and hardpack conditions, but this thing shatters all those preconceived notions of what this kind of board shape should do. You must demo this board if you get a chance, it will surprise you.

    The only cons I can think of is that you aren't going to do a whole bunch of jib tricks on it or ride it switch (unless you want to make like a submarine and dive). And since it's a splitboard it definately has weight to it which you notice off of airs.

    I'm seriously considering buying the Ultracraft version of this if it goes on sale as that one is 25% lighter. And this is beside the fact I already have a split that is only 1 year old, the Hovercraft is that good.
