Here's what others have to say...

how does it work

how does it work

Best Answer Responded on

This is a replacement piezoelectric igniter (it is not compatible with Zip, Flash, Sol, Sol Ti, Sumo or Helios systems).

Viper10445 posted in very helpful Youtube video on how to switch this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qD9xGFHSXY

Will this replacement PI work with the Jet...

Will this replacement PI work with the Jet Boil SOL?

Responded on

No, this is just for the PCS and GCS. Call Jetboil at 888-611-9905 for the part you need, or try bending the wire a little closer to the burner head ( optimal gap is at most 1/4" ) and see if that fixes the problem first, even if you have to cut back the insulation a little to do it.

Simple to replace

I've had my jetboil for about three years and have went through about three of these. I would recommend carrying a spare or having some sort of lighter. They are very easy to replace and whether it's working or not; nothing beats my jetboil!

Will it work with Jetboil FLASH ?

Will it work with Jetboil FLASH ?

so for flash, is there a special backup igniter that I can buy?

and email response:

"No extra parts nesessary, there is enough extra wire to use on the stock Jetboil, you just need to take the base apart, and carefully cut back the insulation leaving a slightly longer than normal ammount of exposed wire, push the wire up through the holder and clip to the same length as before, then Bend it like it was originally and test. you can always alter the location for the best spark, I remember doing a little fiddling till it sparked first time every try.

This should work up to 4 more times (seems to be enough wire to do so) since the wire is in an S bend allready.

The cause I found was in using the jetboil for long durations (forgetting to turn off the jetboil after water was boiled, or boiling multiple items)

Once you do this repair you will quickly realize just how handy the tip is.

My jetboil is still firing up like it was new after a solid year of use! Hopefully yours will do the same. My post should have had some detailed photos to illustrate the process (it may have gotten deleted or changed by the administrator) but this DIY repair isn't hard to do.
Best of Luck!"

Thanks,

"There should be enough wire left to repair around 4 more times before >>>buying one of the replacement piezo starters that the company also provides!<<< ."

- So this piezo starter - Do You know maybe if its available somewhere? I cant find it on the JetBoil page.

Responded on

The original piezo should last 4-6 years, estimated on how hard you use and abuse your stove, but their website has replacement piezo starters, according to the guy who provided this info. I didn't see it on the website, but I'm assuming if you contact their customer service, maybe you can special order?

Wish it worked

Nothing like being in the backcountry and ignitor going out. Then you pullout the trusty replacement to find out it does not work . but wait you relies you have another to find out it does not work. Eight miles in hungry tired no JB...Thank goodness for that trusty BIC....

Still love my jet boil though sure the ignitor works for others just carry that BIC though

Easy fix

I was a little worried when I first got my jetboil several years ago when I saw how high and how brittle this little piece was. I knew I would break it at some point. 26 months later, I did. Of course it took a lot longer than I thought to break it and since I was anticipating it I had this handy replacement ready. Took about 3 minutes to swap. Very simple. Jetboil has come out with a new version of this stove and the new ignitor is shorter and the burner protects it much better.

good to have than have not!

Bought it just in case but haven't had to use it yet because my jet boil has been spot on so far!

Replacement ignitor - easy to install

The current product description says it's a replacement piezo igniter. It's exactly that and was easy to install. Job done. It's easier to light the stove this way than using a match or lighter.

Looks like the product description previously had said something about including o rings, etc from the older reviews.

Responded on

Cheap price for ignition assurance buy one keep just in case! I have one for back up in my kit. Have not had to use spare maintenance kit cause my jet boil has been spot on so far!

Poor Quality Cooking Surfaces

Still not sold on JB system. The hot spots in the middle of the fry pan and pot belie the value of the heat dispersal fins. The speed at which water boils is the only feature JB can boast. The pot and fry pan are not worth the money, and the edge of my (gift) spatula melted on its maiden voyage.

Missing !

Got this thinking I would have what i need if something broke on my jetboil. Only to be greatly disappointed, All that was included in mine was just a sparker and nothing else.

backup

I have already gone through one fo these. When mine broke I was worried that I would have to buy a new one but I just went to the store and bought this and it was easy to install.

not all there

I bought the maintenance kit for future use, but only received an ignitor and no o-ring or fuel jet. I e-mailed backcountry about the discrepancy, but never received a reply or replacement part. It is not worth the shipping cost to return. The ignitor is the main thing I wanted, but be aware you may not get exactly what is pictured. Everything else I ordered was as expected.

Responded on

Backcountry should change the picture, or description of this product.

Great!

This was a good buy. I had the ignitor going out on me so I ordered this kit. It is a very simple replacement process. It is also oh so effective.

5 5

Why not

whats to think about. no food in the woods is that a hard choice very smart buy

saved me lots of money

MY igniter kept getting stuck and after my friend lighting it off his lit one and causing a huge flame ball, and using matches all the time I thought I was going to need a new jet boil. But I got this and problem solved for a lot less! It is easy to install as well. so save some bucks and fix it this way!

Responded on

Note that there are TWO maintenance kits; one is the igniter only, the other contains igniter, O-rings, and gas jet. I think this is creating the confusion, and Backcountry.com may not have noticed the difference.

JetBoil Maint Kit = Cheap Insurance

The JetBoil maintenane kit is cheap insurance to ensure that your JetBoil stove keep boiling. All of the common parts that could wear out or break are included. The whole thing can be put in a small zip lock and be kept in the cup or with your other gear repair stuff that you take on the trail. Good piece of gear.

Piezo replacement

The kit worked out good. I dropped the Jet Boil, and it busted the ignition. So this kit worked out sweet, and I just replaced the ignition and it works like a charm. Don't know about the O ring and jet yet, haven't used the stove enough to need those replaced.

broke the ignitor

This was a great little kit that helped me refurbish my Jetboil. I had broken the igniter and I find this thing difficult to light without it. I replaced the o-ring (but couldn't tell much difference). I’m glad they make this kit.
