Fast and Hot!

think there have been enough reviews on here about how awesome this stove is so I'll skip diving into how much I love this thing and just let everyone know that I wouldn't try to cook anything except hot water in it. It boils extremely fast, but really only has one setting and that is Jet Boiling HOT. I talked to a guy at REI who said I could heat up Chili or stew in this thing, but unless you turn it off and on every 30 seconds or so, you're gonna scorch anything but water.

Would this work well with the pocket rocket, giga power etc?

Responded on

I stand corrected Matt. I just read a review below (see review by christian.f, and comment by Dan). Dan stated that he uses this cup with the pocket rocket, and both seem to recommend them. I could see how these cups would be nice since they have the neopreme sleeve, a handle, and a lid.

Responded on

They say it will, but you won't get the same efficiency as with a full Jetboil system. Both the PocketRocket and the Giga put out much more BTUs, so just watch the cozy. Unless you're looking mostly for the heat indicator, neoprene doesn't really add much to the process, except maybe for marketing , although the heat sink will give you a somewhat better boil time. For my money, I would get a Snow Peak Trek 900 or 1400 with either of the stoves you mentioned, especially since the 1L Jetboils will only handle 1/2L of water at a time.

Have your cake and boil it too.

Is it wrong that I don't own the stove, but I do own this? I don't think so. Having an extra Jet Boil cup makes sharing the stove with a traveling companion really painless. No more fighting over who gets to eat first. No more cleaning up someone else's mess just so you can eat. It totally takes away a whole category of passive-aggressive conflict. very cool.

I also own the cup, but not the stove. I use the cup in conjunction with my MSR pocket rocket. The stove fits inside the cup or you can store a small canister of fuel in the cup.

I have the group system...

And added this to lighten the load and conserve space. It's a jetboil - great piece of gear. I like the lid for sipping coffee/ tea but wish I did not have to pay and extra $15 for the java press. Great piece of gear - nothing compares.

How is this different than the Flash Personal Cooking System? Do we have to purchase the stabilizer tripod seperately?

Best Answer Responded on

The system is the whole deal- stove, cup, tripod. This is just a second cup with no tripod.

Here's a photo that shows the system (fuel canister isn't included though)

Wow, that's hot!!

Already had jetboil's GCS, so this was a perfect purchase to go with it

The water in the cup got hot, really hot, downright dangerous hot in about a minute.

Be careful because the sleeve around the cup is fairly thin. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and they are forbidden to touch this cup when it has hot water in it because i can see how easy it would be to burn themselves

Made ramen and tea

Burned my tongue . . . live and learn

Is it possible to use with Jetboil Helios stove?

Best Answer Responded on

No, it's not recommended by Jetboil, and they only state the compatibility as being with the PCS and the GCS. Both of those stoves put out only 4500 btu's, but the Helios puts out 9500, so I'm thinking the reason is that the flux ring and insulation would be damaged by the higher output and larger burner.

can i use the jet boil cup on any stove

No, these are really only designed to sit atop the Jetboil stove.
