Jansport designed the Whittaker LR Backpack with the help of Peter Whittaker of Rainier Mountaineering. Because of its durability and adjustability, this weeklong pack is the guide's choice for summiting Mt. Rainer. Dual-density foam sternum and shoulder straps reduce friction while climbing with a heavy load. The harness plate adjusts easily to fit torso lengths from 17 to 19 inches, and the shoulder width adjusts up to two inches. This internal-frame pack features access at the top as well as the front pocket for quick gear stuffing. The Whittaker's soft-form helmet recess offers light protection from falling ice or rocks, and reinforced center compression doubles as a vertical snowboard carry option. Side and internal compression also help keep the pack close to the body and the load manageable.

Bottom Line: With 200 Mt. Rainier ascents under his belt, Peter Whittaker knows what a great alpine pack requires. The Jansport Whittaker LR Backpack is proof of that.

Awsome Pack

By:

This pack is great, it fits all my gear for backpacking no problem. I have a young child who goes with us and it fits our 3-person tent plus some of his gear too. It doesn't have any superfluous add-ons, just nice light features. The torso adjustment is great. I bought this pack after much research and feel it is worth more than much more expensive packs.

Clean, Simple, Comfortable

By:

This is a great pack, I used it on Rainier and Whitney this year. Really clean & comfortable suspension and organization. Organization is simple in that there is none...which is how the guides who built it like it. A lot of them even ditch the top compartment while climbing. And sailcloth is a good idea...I haven't seen any other packs utilize this fabric which works great for packs cuz it's strong and light.

Perhaps you don't understand how big this backpack is. 72L is enormous. It will certainly fit your laptop, but whether you'll be able to find it again is questionable, because your arm probably won't reach to the bottom of the pack. If you want a casual, day-to-day pack for school or around town, this is not what you are looking for.

Backpack put to the test

By:
May 30, 2007

I have loaded the pack with 30 lbs of gear and attached tent and ground mat to outside. Pack still has room for more. Quality appears top notch. I have carried this weight on 2, 6 mile hikes to get the adjustment right. So far two thumbs up!
