The JanSport Klamath 75 Backpack has the space, durability, and support needed to take on extended hiking trips while keeping your gear organized. A slew of pockets keep small items from disappearing in to the depths of the large main compartment. JanSport added Ventech back panel and AirCore straps to keep the cool breeze flowing while you hike in the hot summer. Dual water bottle pockets let you reach the H2O without stopping, so you stay hydrated every step of the way.
Dumb question, but I have never bought a longer trip pack before, or used this site. This is an internal frame pack, yes? I'm go to be using it to backpack though Europe.
This bag is really a great bag. For the price it cannot be beat. You may have those ospray bags, and those northface bags and the other bag, which will each cost you an arm and a leg. This bag however is pure diamond in the rough. Just because its cheap does not mean its junk. I took this bag up to Mt. Washington and made it to the tree line, -5 with a windchill of -30. I could not continue for i did not have any crampons or ice ax's. On the way down i took a nasty spill somersaulting, and sliding about 300-400 feet of 70 degree incline. The bag saved my neck, and saved my lower body. It looked as if she was crushed, but when i took a closer look she was in finer shape then when i bought her.... all broken in! No more new car smell! Yay! but the other part was that i had a 1200 dollar camera inside and she protected her with great honor. Thankyou Jansport for sucha great pack. I love it, and would definitely recommend it to a friend. Happy hiking!
I like to have a zip separator between my sleeping back compartment and the main area in my pack to help keep everything in place when I take the bag out at night. This nag has an alternative that seems good so far, though I haven't tried it through a full trip yet. The separator is sown into the wall on one side, and has two connection points on the opposite side. I'm pointing to one of the loops in the photo. Also worth noting, is that I weighed the pack when it was new with tags, and it was just shy of 4 lbs even.

Hey, just bought the pack and love it! incredible thing, very comfortable (so far) and looks like a super star. I do though have two question about the back: How rain proof is it? has anybody ever put it through a solid down pour, and what tent do you guys recommend for her, (3 day trip)?
Not rain proof. It will shed a little water, for a little while, but the material, seams, and zippers aren't sealed. I have put another Jansport pack through heavy rain, and a rain cover is definitely needed. Check out what Sea to Summit, Granite Gear, and Outdoor Research offer. You'll want a large in any of them.
I've had the K75 out on 2 trips, an overnighter in cold temps and a 4 night desert backpack in Grand Canyon. Cold weather trip: the pack easily held all my gear, including my Big Agnes synthetic sleeping bag, an extra fleece bag liner, air core pad, food, drink, cooking gear, extra layers, 10 essentials, and my half of a North Face 4 season tent. I had about 42 pounds in the pack for this hike. One change to my review below - when you load the bag up really full, the side bottle pockets are not as roomy as they originally appeared. One of my water bottles fell out while scrambling under a tree branch through the snow. Thankfully, we found it on the way out the next day. Jansport could definitely make some improvements to the pockets. Plus, they are tight enough that you really need your hiking partners to put your bottle back in. My sister's Kelty pack had much more spacious bottle pockets.
On the Grand Canyon trip I was the unofficial guide for 5 others, and carried just over 50 pounds, including group first aid and extra water (7 liters on our longest day). The pack held up great to the weight. Note about the grid fit system: first day in, I started to feel shoulder pressure - about 2 miles into the hike, I changed the settings on the grid fit sheet, and it completely eliminated the problem. I was initially worried about the durability of the snap together grid fit, but so far, it has held up perfectly.
A couple of minor issues, but I'm still pleased with the pack's capacity and functionality. Thumbs still up.
This shows the adjustable section on the upper portion of the pack, where the shoulder straps are secured. I angled the straps outward to show detail, but they hang normally when in use. It's easy to adjust the tabs, and I don't think they would slip during normal use.
i havent seen this bag personally, but i am able to get it for a very good price. i'm just wondering if the main compartment is accessible from the bottom as well? And also, regarding the pocket on the front of the bag, does that have access to the main compartment, or is it just a pocket of its own.
Klamath 75 just arrived from the UPS man. Construction looks & feels solid, this could be just what I was looking for in a larger volume pack. The "waterproof pocket" the other reviewer is talking about is for your hydration bladder, and there is a port on the pack for the hydration tube to exit just above the framesheet.
Additionally, the photo makes the water bottle pockets appear rather small - they are not. The upper portion of the side pockets are mesh, the bottom third are nylon. I have a 48 oz. "tallboy" Nalgene bottle, and it fits in there just fine and will not fall out. ;)
The "Gridfit / Foamex" framesheet allows for VERY easy torso adjustments for both length and shoulder width. The system is so simple, yet feels very secure. Regarding the fit: I am a 5'8" female paddler - not a skinny minny - I have broader shoulders than most women, and plenty of "stern flotation" if you know what I mean. Most women's packs would not fit my shoulders, but I could see the adjustability of this pack accomodating a tall, thinner female easily.
Aluminum stays appear very durable and of good quality. The top lid / cover is detachable, but lacks a strap that could easily turn it into a lumbar pack.
The pack comes with the JanSport Lifetime Guarantee - so for the awesome SAC price, this feels like a winner all the way. I'll update the review after a few trips...
Brought this backpak for my daughter, went on 3day hiking trip for school. She said she was the only one that was really prepared. Everything fit in backpack except sleeping bag but it hocked across the bottom, not uncomfortable. Great side pockets, lots of room for rain jacket, fleece and hiking boots along with clothes. Great price.
If you are a light packer, taking a shorter trip, or want a good backpack that forces you to leave the hairdryer at home, the Jansport Klamath 75 is your bag. You will definitely appreciate carrying a lighter load on that 2 mile walk from the train station to your hostel while your friends lug their Hummer-sized packs. The bag has four, convenient holders on the front to tie on shoes and even a daypack. There are two pockets accessible by zipper, and a compartment down the middle of the bag accessible by a vertical zipper.
The top opens by drawstring, with a flap that snaps into place to close the top. Inside the backpack is a waterproof pocket that runs the length and width of the bag that is very good for wet/dirty clothes. Finally, there is a bottom compartment accessible by zipper for easy access to those things at the bottom. 4 lb 10 ounces, 4,600 cubic inches of room, Suggested retail $200, www.jansport.com Review by Eric Tiettmeyer
