The Jansport Big Bear 82 Pack carries big loads without weighing a ton by itself. This top-loading pack features streamlined design that is ideal for a week in the backcountry. Front panel pockets organize your small essentials, and side compression straps control the load and strap down extra gear. Slide your hydration reservoir in the internal sleeve and your water bottles in the side mesh pockets. Ergonomic, S-shaped shoulder straps and an adjustable torso system make for an ideal fit.

Can I recommend the Granite Gear Vapor Trail pack?

It's one of the more popular packs on the trail... it rides well, it's relatively lightweight for a full framed pack, and can hold ~3800 cu in. This pack, in my opinion, is a little too large and clunky to use it for the 100+ days you'll be on the AT for. GoLite also makes some great packs... check out the GoLite Quest if the Granite Gear line of packs doesn't give you enough cu in of space:

My grandson and I used our JanSport Big Bear 82 packs this past weekend and came away very impressed. For the price, the pack has plenty of room for your gear, although a side pocket would be nice. The hip belt was well padded and comfortable. Under load, the shoulder straps felt good, and the pack comformed well against my back. The JanSport Big Bear 82 has got to be the best pack in its capacity and price range, hands down.

Yes it will, but only if you plan on not taking a sleeping bag. If you do plan on taking a sleeping bag then I would suggest finding one with a sleeping bag compartment. It makes things much more organized and manageable. Hope you have a great trip.
