When the situation demands a speedy departure, cram your belongings into the Jansport Air Vital Backpack's drop-in front pocket and get a move on. You thought you had enough time to work on your paper before your next class—think again. You have two minutes to get there, so stash your hodgepodge and papers in the no-zip sleeve and hoist your bookish cargo. The gel-filled AirLift shoulder straps distribute the weight evenly, making your load feel half as heavy as it would in a conventional pack. A fully padded back panel cushions as you sprint across campus. When you're done with school for the day, put the front organizer pocket to use and straighten up the mess you've made of your backpack.

Bottom Line: For those of us with poor planning skills, there's the Jansport Air Vital Backpack.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Yes! This bag is just under half the size of the pack I take on a week long backpacking trip! Big bags, especially with younger kids generally equates to bad news. Try a smaller pack or a messenger bag to encourage carrying only what is necessary and good bag-cleaning habits.Even as a university student I try to limit my bag size, otherwise I'd break my back trying to lug 100lbs of books a day.Give these a try:http://search.backcountry.com/exec/?q=timbuk2&x=0&y=0http://search.backcountry.com/?q=crumpler&x=0&y=0

Really Nice Bag

I bought this bag for my 15 year old son, the Jansport expert. He bought and abused a Jansport Air Method for 2004/05 school year (sling too small). He advanced to the Jansport Air Basin for 2005/06 and 2006/07 (just huge). He really likes the medium-large size of this years bag the Jansport Air Vital. It is the conventional backpack design with plenty of room but not so big he packs everything he owns. The only thing he has said he wasn't super impressed with was the straps. Last years Air Basin had the AirLift 2.0 straps which were the best they made. This one has AirLift 1.0 which are better than what I had as a kid by miles but isn't quite as comfortable as what he had. 4 Stars
