A boat that breaks the mold.
Borrowing designs from Jackson Kayak's whitewater specialist, the Karma creek boat, the Karma Traverse 9 Kayak is well equipped to tackle everything from class 4 rapids to long sections of flat water with equal ease. Ideal for multi-day trips down everything from the Grand Canyon section of the Colorado and Texas' Salt River to quick day trips down your local river, the Karma Traverse 9 is specifically designed to accommodate the beginner to intermediate paddler who is looking to cut their teeth in the world of whitewater kayaking, but still want a boat that's comfortable and fun to paddle on mellow rivers.
The Karma Traverse gets its predictable and stable feel from the soft edge displacement hull with drop chine rails, which allow the boat to carve, remain stable in tricky spots, and quickly maneuver in and out of catchy eddy lines. The bow has plenty of rocker and buoyancy to make the boat confidence-inspiring in rapids, while just enough rocker in the stern makes the boat remarkably nimble, given its length. In terms of paddling feel, the Karma Traverse paddles similar to a long creek boat, but thanks to its drop-down skeg, the boat will still hold a straight line and track well when you're paddling across those seemingly endless sections of flatwater that you'll find on big rivers like the Colorado or Utah's Green.
The Traverse features full whitewater rigging with Jackson Kayak's whitewater seat, Uni-Shock bulkhead, and Sure-Lock back band. The seat and back are all adjustable to ensure a comfortable ride when you're spending back-to-back days in the boat, and the Uni-Shock bulkhead will absorb impact when running technical rapids. Now, you're not going to be able to pack a keg and cooler into the Traverse like you would on a full-sized river raft, but this boat does offer plenty of storage space behind the Uni-Shock bulkhead and in the stern courtesy of the rear hatch. The hatch is covered by a two-layer system—the first layer being a water-tight soft cover, and the second layer consisting of a Hard Hat cover to protect the underlying layer from impacts that could tear it open. Deck rigging consists of dual Yakattack gear tracks that will accept everything from cup holders to fishing rod holders (both sold separate) and dual bungee straps are great for storing anything you don't mind getting a little wet.
