The Integral Designs Unishelter eVENT Bivy Bag's ultra-breathable fabric keeps you more comfortable at night, and the large hooped head pole eliminates claustrophobic feelings. Even though the Unishelter eVENT Bivy Bag weighs under two pounds, it's not just some featureless sack. Integral Designs added a long waterproof side zipper to aid access, and the bug net lets you sleep under the stars without being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Bottom Line: Travel light and sleep comfortably with the Integral Designs Unishelter eVENT Bivy Bag.

I'm 6'6", 190lbs and size 15 foot. Is this the best bivy for a person like me? I'm traveling through South America and need some protection for the colder climates in Bolivia and further south.

you will still need a temperature appropriate sleeping bag and pad. eVent fabric, of which this bivy is almost entirely comprised, will be completely waterproof and arguably vents better than gore-tex, preventing or minimizing condensation on your sleeping bag in the morning. i, personally, would still recommend a synthetic sleeping bag with this setup as synthetics will still insulate when wet or damp, where down is pretty much worthless. this IS a good bivy.

as for you, you will fit. but, the side half zip entry may provide some unique challenges with entry and exit considering your height. Something like the Outdoor Research Advanced Bivy might make for easier ingress and egress, although it is gore-tex not eVent, and about a half pound heavier.

on another note, i spent a little time checking out and laying in the big agnes eVent bivy the other day and that thing is massive! i am 6'3" 208 and i was swimming in it! i had no problems getting in and out of it either. if you have any qualms about this one, you might check that one out.

Cadillac of Bivs

Tried several bivs over the years, nothing comes close to this one. Easy to breath, non claustrophobic, bug netted opening. Vented. Easy to use with or without the brow lift.

You have to define perfectly. This bag is 33 inches wide. Most sleeping pads are 20 inches wide. I would be surprised if you could find a backpacking sleeping pad that wouldnt fit in this. I think any air pad you have would work.

This bivy is awesome and has kept me and my gear dry many times when it's started nuking out. Seams and zippers are locked down tight from moisture entering and the little vent above the raised area keeps the inside relatively condensation free. For warmer, drier nights, unzip the nylon above your face and get some fresh air through the mesh screen.
This bivy is nice in that it comes with a real pole, not some delrin shockchord piece of junk, to make sleeping in it more comfortable for those who don't like the claustrophobic feel of bivy sacks. The pole can be left behind to save some ounces and the bag works just as well.
(Quick tip for those who don't like the feeling of the fabric on your face as you sleep; wear a baseball hat and the brim will keep the fabric off of your face)
I'm 5'8" and there is plenty of room for me and my pack inside with some foot room to spare. 1/2 length side zipper makes getting yourself and your stuff in and out very easy.
This is an awesome choice for anyone in the market for a bivy that will keep you dry in the harshest conditions, but also have some comforts without adding a ton of extra weight.
