Description

Light as a feather, tougher than a storm.

The Integral SilBothy Emergency Shelter is so light that you'll have to double-check your pack to make sure it's there. When Mother Nature sneaks up on you and your companion, duck under this silicone-impregnated nylon ripstop shelter and plop down on waterproof seats to wait out the storm. A built-in stuff sack further helps save weight and add efficiency, and air vents help reduce condensation and provide air flow.

If you're looking at this...

...you probably already know what it is. I didn't until a few months ago when I started looking into lightweight shelter/bivy gear and got turned on to bothys. This one is as light as any other manufacturer's and it's so easy to use I've been bringing it and using it on more casual day hikes in the winter. The ventilation port doubles as the built-in stuff sack (about the size of a large grapefruit when stuffed) so you can never lose it.

I like bothys in general and this one in particular because it's super easy to deploy and pack back up - no poles like a tent or tarp, and it's pretty roomy for two people - not just a waterproof sleeping bag like a bivy sack. You could squeeze three in if they weren't big people. You don't need a big area for it, if you have room to sit you have room for a bothy. It's like night and day when it's windy and snowing outside and you pop this thing out, sit on your pack or rope, and have a snack...instant shelter when conditions get bad.

I bought this as a safety net when mountaineering (after an unplanned overnight on Longs Peak), and it's definitely found a permanent place in my pack. Small size, light weight, incredibly easy to use and pack back up, this thing is great.
