The Integral Designs Sil Shelter is an ultra light siliconized nylon tarp, specially shaped to set up on a hiking pole as a two person stand-alone shelter. The Sil Shelter is intended for use in conjuction with a bivy in above treeline conditions. A non slip neotek pole cap holds hiking pole in place at reinforced apex, with a second pole wrap prop-point in the center of the shelter. There are 21 webbing tie outs on corners and edges (one on the outside of the pole cup to enable suspension from a tree), and 3 webbing tie loops on the body of the tarp. The front entrance flaps can be left open for ventilation or overlapped and staked for a weather tight closure. The Sil Shelter has no zippers. Pitch off ground level for best ventilation. The Sil Shelter will attach to the front of many tents as a simple vestibule.

Bottom Line: The Integral Designs Sil Shelter is the ultimate in ultra light shelters.

Near weightless shelter

The size and weight alone is worth it. I have slept in other shelters (MSR Twin Peaks and standard tarp), and this by far the lightest. I much prefer it solo as it is small. Suspending from above rather than trekking poles on the inside is great, though not much head room. It packs down to the size of your fist and weighs less than a pound. Take lots of stakes for pitching options. I found it on sale, great buy!

Snug As A Bug

I have used the Sil Shelter on many trips. I love the thing. It sets up in a flash and I sleep snug as a bug with anything Mother Nature sends my way. I use the Superlite 3 walking staff by Tracks for my pole and the special cup that holds it does a fair job and it's as light as a feather. There are so many ways to set it up I can't count how many I have used, but it's very versatile for any trip. I put it up with my Bivy for even more options. I cant say enough. My hats off to Integral Designs for one great shelter. Thank You.

SilShelter

Hands down this is a great shelter for light-weight 3-season and light winter backpacking - if using during the winter find a well protected campsite other wise you will most likely wake up in the middle of the night with a collapsed tarp on your face. I've used the silshelter on many trips for the past couple of years along the AT [VT, NY, CT, MA, MY, PA, and WV Appalachian Trail], Catskills, and Adirondacks in upstate New York. It weighs in on my digital postal scale at around 13.6oz. [That's about twice as much as this website indicates, who knows where they got that information] I have stopped setting it up with my trekking poles and opted to simply tie it off to a pair of trees or stout sticks as a sloped "A-frame" This way I get some ventilation through it and I more room on the "inside."
