A baselayer fleece with paddling power.
When you're boating in water that was snow only a few hundred vertical feet ago, you're going to want the Men's Thick Skin Thermal Top from Immersion Research. This heavyweight, fleece insulator is made from a stretchy blend of polyester and spandex that keeps you warm and doesn't absorb too much water. Flat seam construction prevents chafing under your dry top, while a high collar with a bit of sun protection keeps your neck and shoulders from getting crispy.

I had an IR Thick Skin before I bought a new one from Backcountry.com. Sadly, amunst many river trips and handing of gear it disappeared without a trace. The initial impression the IR Thick Skin left was...Amazing! Enough to get another. The fleece material keeps you warm by itself through those late Spring days and late fall runs when adding dry gear just seems overkill. When acompanied with dry gear, you're dry and warm even on those days when the riverbanks are covered in snow and ice.
I even use my Thick Skin as a base layer for skiing, snowboarding, climbing, hiking and anything else were I want a light weight, do it all piece of clothing!
