Shaman Alpine Ski

Slip into a trance as you let the Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski direct your body, mind, and soul through effortless powder turns down a mystic mountain face. Despite (or rather, because of) its unique shape, the Shaman provides incredible forward-oriented balance and floatation for charging powder thanks to its 160mm-wide shovel and all-around beefy surface area. The mind-altering effect of the Shaman doesn’t stop once you hit the cat track, because its traditional sidecut cannot help but make short, snappy turns all the way to the base. A fiberglass-wrapped poplar core conjures an ethereal equilibrium of flex and stiffness, so you can make the same soul-refreshing turns when the fluff gets chopped.

Bottom Line: Obtain unnatural power in powder, as well as everything else.

weigh 190-200 lbs. What is the best weight - length ratio for this board? I ski the trees and the steeps at Alta and Snowbird primarily but still like to rip the groomers fast as well.

I am 6' 185 lbs and I have the 184, and use it for trees and pow on the east coast, but it is the Ice Coast so I still ski lots of hardpack, whether it be in the trees, moguls, or on groomers. I feel like this length is perfect, and I would definetly bring it anywhere. The weight isn't noticeable, even coming from my super light backcountry setup. This is probably because they really float and still rail on groomers. However, I have used the 173, and they are still stable, and are even more manuverable, with only a little less floatation. Hope that helps.

Shamans Rock!

By:
January 21, 2011

I've tried a lot of skis over the years, but NEVER have laughed more than on these skis! So much fun. The tips NEVER dive. The taper angle (tip is 30 mm wider than tail) is magic in powder and crud. BIG sweet spot- they were happy regardless of where I stood on them. AND the sidecut arcs clean trenches on the way home! Epic breakthrough ski that will be talked about for years! Great job Icelantic!

Spring Fling

By:
November 10, 2010

The month of April always seems to bring some of the best storms of the year. I always look forward to this time of the year as coverage is usually good and the snowpack is pretty consolidated and safe. Here's a little bit of the spring madness.

Well I guess it depends on what you're looking to do Vet... Obviously if you're looking to go touring, you'd probably want to go AT. Since you're looking at the Shaman, I'm guessing performance is more important to you than light weight. I'd go with a beefy AT binding from Marker. I have a pair of Marker Duke's and have always been satisfied. If you're sticking mostly to resort skiing, then save some extra weight and go Alpine. I have last years Shamans with a pair of Rossi FKS 180 bindings and LOVE them. Best alpine set up I've ever had. Hope this helps. Happy hunting and Deep snow!!!

Ohhh... Another nice feature that the Shamans have that make them nice for touring is the narrowing/slightly pointed tip which allows for most skin clips to fit easily.

Shamans are awesome

By:
November 1, 2010

These things are so wide you can't fall over if you wanted to. Shamans make deep powder effortless and they turn, turn, turn. Give you all the security of driving a mac truck. They go anywhere and cut through anything. If you ever wanted to go tree skiing in deep powder but felt you didn't have the skills, leg power or coordination, get a pair of these. I can't say enough about them. And thats coming from a 50 year old Johny come lately skier.

Do you hike around in the backcountry ever? If so, then geez, i don't see why you'd even CONSIDER Alpine. If not, then its worth thinking about, but i'd still go AT. Full disclosure: I do NOT own these particular skis, but i DO plan to buy some. I use AT boots in-bounds all the time, i don't think i'll ever buy straight Alpine boots again. If for no other reason than the flexibility of being able to go backcountry..... JMHO! jim.

Shamanize your mountain

By:

I absolutely love the versatility of these skis. They kill it in everything from groomers, to bumps, to crud, and pow. These GS inspired pow skis have a killer shape that just rails on the groomers but floats so effortlessly for a non rockered ski. You need to ski these aggressively to get the most out of them. Absolutely love mine with my NTN set up.
