The Icebreaker Men’s SuperFine150 Tech Short Sleeve T-Shirt breathes like cotton and wicks moisture like a high performance tee. What really sets this t-shirt apart is the odor-free, ultralight comfort of merino wool.
Icebreaker switched from 150g/m2 to 140g/m2 merino wool halfway through production, so you might receive either weight (the weight of the 140 merino is just a little bit lighter)
Bottom Line: Feels like performance, doesn’t smell like performance.
does anyone know if Patagonia is the only Co. that makes wool/poly shirts? I have several all wool t's and find that they dont last very long, get snaged etc.
This is my first piece of 100% merino, and I wish I never bought it. I absolutely love it and want more, but can't dump 50 or 60 bucks a pop on t-shirts. I was much better off not knowing what I was missing. Damn you, Icebreaker!
I like the way it fits, not being too wide at he bottom, and it is extremely comfortable. As with most marino wool products, the wicking is awesome, and the odor is very low, so you can wear it a while in the backcountry without being too offensive.
I really appreciate the way it wears well in most conditions. It's a very versatile shirt, and it is tough enough to take a beating. It's not right for extreme heat, so look elsewhere if that's the kind of shirt you need. However, if you want a highly functional shirt for most weather, that looks good, and that can be used as a base layer in colder conditions, this is a good purchase.

This shirt just feels so good. It is a lightweight so it's not going to cut it when it's cold, but that's understood. It's great for warmer weather or layering during the cooler months. Love it!
Great shirt for spring skiing, running, hiking, and even just casual wear. It's pretty soft, but not nearly as soft as the 200 (which I'd say is a bit more versatile). This shirt isn't very warm, but its very good as a baselayer underneath some layers. Merino Wool is the best!!
This is my favorite shirt for warm weather activities. The wool is amazing against your skin and the shirts looks great. They fit like a normal t-shirt, so you can wear it by itself in public (even if you aren't ripped). I have the long sleeve shirt as well and wear them pretty much every time I hit the outdoors when its over 50 degrees. My only gripe is that they don't come in white! (I wear them as undershirts to work also, but can only wear with dark shirts due to the lack of lighter colors)
Redram is a company that makes clothing from Icebreaker merino (it's the same fabric) and has a short sleeve shirt in white. Check it out at http://www.redram.com/ .
I would definitely recommend the medium. I'm 6'3", 180, and the medium was plenty long and roomy enough. This shirt is cut more generously than most of the icebreaker stuff I have, but it's still a fairly slim fit. I also find the lighter merino wool stuff, like this shirt, only shrink a touch in the wash.
You'll definitely want to go with the large. I'm 5'11", and the medium was right on the border of being too short. Plus the merino wool is suppose to shrink a little after the first wash. I ended up exchanging for a large which has the right length for someone being 6' to 6'2 . I'm 155lbs so it doesn't fit me as slim, but would be a perfect match for your dimensions.
I own a few 150g Smartwool and Icebreaker Merino wool shirts. I prefer the athletic cut of Icebreaker vs the more relaxed Smartwool shirts. Merino breathes and wicks like no other material out there. I use Merino wool for every occasion and it's truly amazing. I really like the Tech Lite's subtle design. People hardly notice you wearing the same shirt multiple days in a row. Only negative, I feel it might be "too fine" and I'm worries about the longevity of the material. I personally like the 200g better. The 150g is also more relaxed than the 200g. 6ft 135lbs, Medium fits a bit baggy for my tastes.
This is my go to shirt. Whether it's my stand a lone layer in hot temps or my baselayer it performs amazingly. It was one of 3 shirts I took to Belize for 10 days and whether I was on the cayes or in the Bladen River Nature Reserve it was perfect. It's held up great through 50 plus days of wear. The only damage is were a belt wore a small hole in underneath a pack waist strap.
I've tested Icebreaker's Tech Lite T-Shirt over multiday climbing outings in Colorado and a multiday fishing & hiking expedition in Zambia, South Africa and Namibia. I wore the shirts as a base layer in freezing and near-freezing weather and as an outer in 30C+ weather. I intentionally wore the shirt for several days in a row without washing - no smell. The shirts look good and are also comfortable. I'm 5'11", 175-180 pounds (depending on beer consumption), 42" chest, and bought the large, which fits nicely. I highly recommend this product and have sent all of my old cotton t-shirts to Goodwill.
I just purchased an IB 200 hopper shirt and tried it out today. It was around 85 and med humidity and it was pretty warm. I thought it was going to be cooler. I bought it because of great reviews and backpacker gear award. Would this shirt be cooler in hot weather and is the hopper more durable than this one? Thanks.
bow2852095, Thanks for your question. The Icebreaker Hopper shirt is a 200 weight merino wool product. The Icebreaker Superfine Tech Lite T is lighter weight Merino, coming in between 150 and 140 weight. That being said, the Tech Lite will be cooler in hotter weather. The Hopper features a heavier fabric, therefore it will probably be a bit more durable than the Tech Lite T. Look to items that are below 200 weight Merino for those summer months. I hope this is helpful for you.
Working in IRAQ and KUWAIT a must for surviving what your body has to make it through 140 degrees constant temp and desert nights. My locker is full of nothing but icebreaker a life saver.
I wore it for a week straight and it truly did not stink. Very light, feels very smooth. Like butter. I will buy another when it wears out or if I see one on SAC.
I love this shirt. It has nice t-shirt cut to it. I have other Icebreaker BodyFit style shirts that fit very close. This one is more relaxed, looks and feels great. Excellent for running in the heat.
I'm trying to figure out what size I should get. I'm about 6'2'' to 6'3'' and weigh roughly 175 to 180 lbs. Tall and skinny. I have heard these tech tees run a bit small, so would a large be big enough. I want a relaxed fit, although not very loose, but I also don't want it slim fitting like a body t. Should I go with a large or an XL? Thank you!
Love this shirt. Great for backpacking. I was worried it was too thin to hold up to a pack for multiple days but it held strong. Great for running too. Dries quickly. Got mine on SAC and will buy more if they come up again!
This shirt is great. I was hesitant about spending the $$$ on tee, but it's a performance tee. Did back to back runs of 14 and 15 iles and the shirt didn't have any odor. The shirt performed well in temperature range of 50 to 80 degreees. Haven't tested in the Texas heat yet, but it's definitely worth the money. A few of these is all you need.
I think my husband now has this shirt in every color available. Every other shirt in his closet is pushed back in the corner and doesn't get worn. Merino wool is hands down the best thing out there for breathability and wicking & makes anything cotton feel terrible. So if you are purchasing this for the first time you better save up for your new merino wardrobe; you wont want anything else. (He also will only wear merino socks and undies--spoiled for life.)
Great comfortable good looking soft shirt. One huge downfall is that it is way too long. Only if you are really tall and skinny should you get this shirt
I own 4 of these shirts---I loved them---they seemed perfect in every way, just like most of the other reviewers. Comfy, no-stink, quick drying, etc. Here's the flaw: within less than one year of frequent wear the first shirt I bought has started to die---the fabric is developing holes all, first at points of more friction, but now they are showing up all over the shirt. The second shirt I bought (a couple of months later) is now following the same pattern of fabric failure. For a shirt this expensive I was hoping for more durability. So now I have to be careful and save the shirts for travel. In short, don't expect these shirts to hold up for long!
This is my first icebreaker with many more in the future. Agreed it's a little pricey but the stink free workouts are worth it. I no longer worry about having to get in the elevator with one of my neighbors after a run. Bottom line this is the best workout shirt I've ever owned.
When does one choose the 200 over this? Will be used under motocross gear a lot for sweet management. Very physical activity during 40 deg days and will be under a jersey. It will be under a chest protector too so it will have some rubbing going on.
I'd go for the 200. This is more of a really nice T-shirt that would keep you cool in warmer weather and and add a little warmth in the cooler weather. The 200 will probably also be more durable!
I purchased one of these last year, for wearing on my 10 mile (each way) bike commute to/from work. I also purchased a few biking jerseys at the same time. The jerseys are at the bottom of the pile and I have since purchased 4 more of these shirts. I wear them on all my climbs as my base layer.
Yes, they are expensive. But they are worth it. I can wear one for days in the backcountry, a feat I won't subject my climbing partners to with any other fabric. Wash them in woolite and turn them inside out before washing. To dry, I let our dining room chairs each wear one.
I bought two of these to alternate using while trekking 8 days over the Ouachita National Forest. They are lightweight, ultra-comfortable, and they do not hold odor; at least not until after a long time being used. Mine never picked up my odor after eight tough days in the field. I definitely recommend this shirt!
I like this as a base layer or by itself on warm days. It does get a bit itchy under pack shoulder straps, and the stitching under the arms causes it to bunch funny under other layers. I like that it's not so tight it can be worn as a casual shirt too.
This was my first Icebreaker product & I have since added more. It is a great quality of wool that is extremely comfortable & not an itchy fiber in sight. Warm, nice fit, good looking. Solid wardrobe staple for a day about town, or a trip to the gym. Since wool doesn't retain odors like synthetics, you'll remain stench free well in to the future.
Awesome shirt. Gave it as gift to BIL and he loved it, however, we did have it "giftwrapped' in a goatskin bag. BUT, the bag came with the shirt and not in the shirt, not sure if I would do that again. LOve the idea of reusable gift packaging but loses effect if not packaged IN the bag. But shirt rocks.
Probably a medium would be good, to double check there is a sizing chart under the drop down menu, but with your height I think the small is too short.
As others have said this shirt will stink very litle when sweating.I ilke the feel of the cloth on my skin. I wear my shirts day and night. After buying this shirt 2 years ago I have bought 3 other shirts and 3 pairs of socks because I think Icebreaker is wonderful stuff. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because after a year+ my first shirt developed little holes in about 3 places so the fabric is not so tough as some other fabrics in my experience. Secondly, I found my dark blue shirt faded to a purplish colour I do not like.Yet I recently bought more Icebreaker goods because even though they are very expensive and not so tough and prone to fading i still will not stop wearing Icebreaker goods...NOTE: on two of my other model shirts the tags sewed inside at the left sides had to be cut out by me as they were sharp-edged and scratching my skin too much..The T-shirt above has no such annoying tags.
I first bought a Patagonia Capilene T-Shirt...it dried very, very quickly, but it would smell awful. Then I bought this shirt and it doesn't smell, but it doesn't dry nearly as fast as the Capilene shirt. I did find this shirt scratchy the first time I wore it, however, after the first wash it was better.
I have problems w/ sweaty t shirts. Any synthetic material never gets clean. I've had an icebreaker for a year and loved it. So much so that I bought 2 more. I am a wool convert. I even started to switch my cycling jerseys to wool.
I LOVE these shirts! So comfortable and super functional. it dries quickly and does a great job of regulating your temp and keeping you comfortable. Bought two of them and wore them on 12 day backpacking trip to West Coast Trail- slept in them(kept me from sweating in the sleeping bag) hiked in them(kept me from getting overheated on the trail), Layer well and kept me warm on the cool nights camped on the beach, live in them at home and they do not stink no matter how hard you work!! They wash/launder well on delicate- no problems- air dry and good as new! Good buy and good product! I recommend highly!
I took a gamble on the blue one. Glad I did. Not only was it cheaper, but it is much darker as well. It's not that bright neon in the pic, it's a much more subtle tone. I'm 6'0, 185lbs, and the large fits pretty slim.
Light, soft, and looks good. Not only does this shirt wick moisture extremely well, it won't start to smell for days! I'm 5'8", 160 lbs and the medium fits perfectly (a little big at first, shrinks down to the perfect size). As soon as I get more money, I'm buying the other 5 colors.
Icebreaker's sizing is inconsistent. I am wearing a newly purchased shirt in Medium that fits exactly the same as a Small I bought last year...yet another Medium I tried on was bigger.(I haven't changed size and all my other clothes fit the same including the old shirt.) I have found this to be the case in their boxers too. You cannot trust the size charts or labels anymore. I don't have any faith in their quality control at this point. I think the China outsourcing is biting them in the butt.
The first thing you need to do is get over the sticker shock - my experience has been that whenever gear has the word "tech" or "technical" in the title, it will be expensive - and also worth it. I travel a lot - between 50,000 and 100,000 air miles a year and only use carry on luggage. The Superfine 140 Tech T works equally well in warm or cold weather, takes up minimal room in my carry-on bag, and easily launders in my hotel sink and is line dry by the next morning - and it does not smell in between washings. My advice is get two, carefully alternate them, and if you are a minimalist like me you will not need any other undershirt-type apparel.
"You payed that for a T Shirt?!?" asked my wife. True, there is a little sticker shock, and yes, on first wear it feels like it's made of steel wool. But after a good wash or two it felt great. Kept me nice and warm on a poorly-planned mountain bike outing in a downpour, and I didn't smell like poop afterwards. Stink power is much better than capilene. Just buy one and try it out.
It's been eight years since I brought back my first Icebreaker T-shirt from New Zealand ... and I've still got it and I still use it. The size has shrunk slightly with all the laundries but that is as advertised. This new one has a slightly looser fit (which I don't like so much, actually, thus only 4 stars) but the lighter quality makes it suitable for warmer conditions (which I like). Comfy to wear and does not smell -- GREAT.
Wow. This shirt is amazing. I have many wicking shirts. What intrigued me about the merino wool was the ability to prevent body odor from clinging to it. I immediately put this to the test and did about 7 mountain bike rides without a wash. While most baselayers could kill a cockroach they smell so bad, this one maintained only a slight odor. Way better than other baselayers that can smell so bad I lose friends and potential dates. The shirt wicked well and was comfortable. Now I don't have to smell horrible when I go into the bar for that post ride beer. Awesome!
This is my first icebreaker shirt and I could not be happier with it. I was a little skeptical to buy a wool shirt to wear in the spring/summer months but i have been very pleasantly surprised. This shirt is super lightweight and breathable, I wore it for a whole weekend camping, hiking and climbing and never got too hot or too cold. It did a great job of temperature regulating and wicking away moisture. This is an excellent shirt! Definitely check it out!
Not sure I will ever be able to wear cotton or poly again. This has to be the most comfortable shirt you can wear. Looking forward to wearing this for everything from lounging to running.
I LOVE this shirt. it is so comfortable and super functional. it dries quickly and does a great job of regulating your temp and keeping you comfortable. it's a little fragile, but mostly in the washer. I have a few little holes from the washing machine. I would recommend with any washable wool that you wash it in a pillow case or mesh laundry bag, just to keep it safe. I also don't wash mine very much. I just hang it up and let it air out. It's usually good to go in a few hours
This is my first piece of 100% merino, and I wish I never bought it. I absolutely love it and want more, but can't dump 50 or 60 bucks a pop on t-shirts. more...
