Decent

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I love merino wool... it's great for skiing insulation or socks - warm, breathable, and doesn't stink when sweaty. I picked up this shirt for general active wear, especially climbing, running, and hiking. I own other merino products from Patagonia & Smartwool, and this one disappointed me.
My general complaints are: it runs small (this large fits like a Patagonia/Arcteryx/North Face medium), is a bit heavier weight than necessary for strenuous activities (running, bouldering) - true 100 weight would be nicer, has a sort of weird wet-dog smell when sweaty (not as bad as sweaty capilene, but not odorless like Patagonia's), and the texture is kind of uneven - sort of ribbed and rough.
That being said, it has classic good looks, moves well, and won't get you killed on a mountain when a storm rolls in like cotton.

Great Merino T

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I rarely do anything outside without a merino base layer anymore. It's simply the best stuff to have against your skin, period. This shirt is no exception and the dark color looks great. I have two of these now and love them. However, I would say I like the cut and style of the Stoic Merino Crew better. The very subtle V neck and extra long torso looks great and stays put under a harness or tucked into your (soft)shell pants. Icebreaker uses fantastic wool but the stoic products hold up well and generally go on sale for a great deal on SAC. Either way, you cant go wrong, unless you only buy one. You'll need a bunch!

Looking good.

The Hopper is just what a merino from Icebreaker should be. Soft, quick drying and not stinky. My favorite part, though is the different colored raglan sleeve. It gives a bit of a more casual look, which is great.

It's true!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's true, it won't smell. Wore it for three weeks straight and went running in it. Still smelt just like a clean shirt would. My only complaint is that it seems a bit linty or mildly fuzzy - meaning I just wouldn't get these in black.

Worth every dime

Hands-down the best shirt for backpacking I've ever used. Dries super-fast. I wore this shirt for 6 straight days backpacking in Yellowstone and the weather was very warm. There was absolutely zero odor and that by itself made this shirt well worth the money.

Best shirt ever

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Used this as my go-to shirt for a 6 day trek of the North Coast Trail (Vancouver Island). Comfortable, stylish, dries SUPER quickly, and does not hold stink!!! I'm 5'10", 180lbs, muscular build, and the Medium fit me like a glove (I like my shirts to fit snuggly rather than looser though). After I got back from the trek, I ordered 2 more in this style. Overall, you simply can't go wrong with Icebreaker - just be mindful of the sizing and how you like your clothes to fit.....the functionality of Icebreaker merino is unparalleled.

Love this shirt

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The fit (casual) of this shirt is perfect for me. I have a 40 chest, but big arms and broad shoulders so I go back and forth between M and L sizes. I went with the large. The length is just right for me at 5'8", so I can see how it could be too short for taller people. Must be line dried if that matters to you. Not the most stylish of shirts, but does accentuate arms and pecs, while hanging loose enough to hide my desk jockey gut.

Just got this in! Feels good and lightweight!...

Just got this in! Feels good and lightweight! My only thing is I have a long torso, can anyone recommend something that has a longer fit? I am 5"10 175lbs, but I either have a long torso or I just like a little bit longer fit maybe? I have an athletic build, and most shirts just seem square to me, always too wide and never long enough? Any help is appreciated.

Any idea how this would fit relative to...

Any idea how this would fit relative to the Superfine 150 Tech Lite shirt? Specifically, would it be baggier?

Responded on

This will have the same fit at the Tech T Lite- regular fit.
