Above and Beyond Expectations

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I was fortunate to be one of the first people to be truly amazed by this jacket. The Teton Hooded Jacket from Icebreaker is not cheap, but is worth every penny! Its design and materials stand miles ahead of other soft shell jackets and is perfect for the wet weather and activity of Girdwood AK. It fits the contours of my body, moves sheds, breaths insulates and looks damn sporty and sexy! Be sure to pay extra attention to the fit of this one, it is meant to fit tight, close and exact. Im proud to put this jacket on! Nice Job Icebreaker!

Hey Kun,

Given that Icebreaker's measurements for their Medium-size apparel most closely match your provided measurements, I would consider going with that size in this particular garment. I must admit, their (Icebreaker) sizing seems a bit disproportional in certain regards as compared with other companies, but like I said, the Medium most closely matches what it sounds like your build is. Their small sizes would definitely be snug to the point of being uncomfortable, while conversely, their Large sizes would be baggy like those of a "gangsta" (pardon the parlance, I couldn't think of how else to describe it adequately). Is there a store in your area where you could go to perhaps try on a Medium Icebreaker garment to make sure you would be happy with that size? If not, BC has an extraordinary return policy which should allow you to exchange the piece for a different size should you not be satisfied, though I doubt that will happen. Good luck, hope this helps.

I've got a 320 weight full-zip sweat shirt...

I've got a 320 weight full-zip sweat shirt without a hood (Quantum GT, I believe). I'm looking for something a bit heavier with a hood. I noticed this has 260 inside fleece plus an outer shell. Am I correct to assume the total warmth from this garment (260 + outer shell) will be warmer than my single layer 320?

Also, is this jacket machine washable? I know machine drying is never recommended, but I would like to avoid dry clean only garments.

Many thanks,

This jacket will definitely be warmer than your single layer 320. It has a water resistant nylon softshell exterior that is quite wind resistant as well. It is difficult to quantify the exact weight of this fabric because it is a hybrid.

If you don't want the softshell combo check out the Kodiak Hood- it is a 320 fabric with a bit of Nano treatment for water repellency.

It is machine washable but you probably won't need to watch it often because it is an outerwear piece.
