Multi talented shirt

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I got this shirt initially as a base layer for my outdoor activities. It doesn't hold odor as much as other shirts, but I've had better odor success with my Lululemon silver lined shirts - I think it's just personal chemistry. But it still works well, and one day I wore it under my scrubs, and realized it was an amazing layering piece for me to be comfortable all day long. Now I'm hooked and have bought so many to just live in.
Everyone is right, don't use the dryer. Or just use the "air dry"
Setting and lay it out to complete the drying process.

Great shirt, don't put it in the dryer!

After reading some reviews about slight shrinkage after washing I carelessly threw this shirt in the dryer.... twice. ugh! It was a very loose fit when I first got it so after the first time in the dryer it fit perfectly snug how i like it. The second time around maybe it's too snug now. The length shrunk too which is my biggest problem because I'm 5'11", but still an awesome shirt!

I wore this for a week at Jackson Hole while living out of an RV with no shower. This shirt definitely does not hold odor or moisture! Was skiing for 8 hours every day that week and every morning it was like putting on a fresh shirt. I would have changed it up, but it's so soft and comfortable unlike my other baselayer. Would highly recommend.

Two thumbs up

I'm 5'4", 130 lbs and I bought the grey in a M. It's a perfect fit! For the past 4 months, I've been living out of the car with only a few shirts, including this one. In comparison to my other wool socks, underwear, and leggings, this shirt holds more odor. This surprised me because I've heard countless people talk about it NOT holding odor. It could just be me! It's nothing major anyway. I have been very impressed with its durability, as I have worn this shirt to hell and back and I don't think there's a snag in it!
Overall, this shirt is an excellent base layer for the cold of winter and even after it warms up. I often wear it on spring hikes and climbs to shield me from UV exposure.

Two thumbs up

I am 5'9", will this product be long enough for me, I dislike when it is too short

Responded on

Yes- Icebreaker over the years has added length to all of their products. You can also check out the GT Technical Baselayer- they are running a bit longer.

Responded on

Yes, I'm 5'11" & the torso & sleeves are more than long enough. No shrinkage issues either (I wash them inside out, in a laundry bag w/no fabric softener ...air dry only). IB is the "only" workout clothing my husband & I wear year-round ...we love them!!! They do tend to run a tad bit small ...so order a size up & most of their tops are form fitting.

great base layer!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this shirt! Feels soft and warm. I use it as a base layer for skiing. Even after 3 days of wearing it doesn't stink at all which is a nice bonus :o). I use it with Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Legging. Both great products . True to size .. I'm 5'5'' 130lb (curvy) .. size M works great for me. I would recommend hand wash (or cold wash in washer).. no dryer!

great base layer!

Worth it.

I was skeptical at first when I saw it online, but it went on sale, and how could you not try something with such great reviews? The first time I wore it I noticed the second skin type fit, which is ideal for base layers. I wore it inside, by itself, in a cold environment. It kept my temperature regulated at a comfortable degree, and also it made me feel surprisingly good about my body. Double plus. I've used it so much since then. It's never let me down. I wear it hiking, running, when I shovel snow, and even when I sleep on those cold nights. It's probably my favorite shirt in my wardrobe. I'll wear it by itself or as a base layer, and I love it both ways. I also got one for my mom, who is known for being cold on summer days. She feels the same way as I do, and she's way less active than I am. It's fairly light for a wool shirt, which is nice. It did shrink a little bit just from a wash, but it's not too bad. I'm 5'8" and have a longer torso, I usually go for a small, but grabbed a medium in this. After the shrink, it still covered me completely, I just need to stretch it out a little bit after each wash. No big deal, it's worth it.

Love the snug fit -don't love the shrink

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This shirt is feels and fits great the first time it is worn. I am 5'8" with a longer torso and seek tops that are longer in the torso and sleeves. The medium top started out a really nice length in the torso and sleeves, with a perfect fit. I was excited! Unfortunately, like all wool it shrinks after the first wash (didn't even dry it!). I wish Icebreaker or SmartWool would add some length to compensate for this shrinkage. I see recommendations to go up a size, but I'd really like to not have to give up the snug fit I enjoy in order to get the right torso and arm length.

So it's still a nice looking top, but I now have to stretch it before wearing. I can't wear it for snowboarding, because with wipe-outs like mine the top is sure to rise and create a gap for Frosty the Snowman to sneak in and stay for a while. Brrrrrrr......

Responded on

Make sure you wash it in cold water. You might also want to try the Siren Crew- it is longer in length.

Love Icebreaker

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Icebreaker has been my go to brand for wool, althought I have started branching out towards some smartwool and stoic products. I bought this on SAC a while back and can safely say that it is a great shirt. I wear it running all the time but I love it as a baselayer for skiing and hiking. I love the close fit so I don't get all bunchy with my other shirts over it.

I am 5'2" and about 130 lbs. Althletic build... 34 (a) chest and about a 28 in waist. I am not big by any means so I like to think that my weight comes from muscle... but I order a large and it fits snug. I typically wear a small or medium in regular clothes. size up for sure.

buy a size larger

great top; Icebreaker runs small. get a size larger than normal

Perfect!

This top fits perfect, breathes great and does not smell (never!). Oh and the green color looks great. This is probably my favorite Icebreaker product so far!

My new go-to base layer

I own two of these tops, one in light gray and one in horizon/petunia, which is a really nice deep purple color. I've used them solo for hot, sunny approaches as well as a base layer when mountaineering or ice climbing. They do a great job of keeping me warm or cool as the activity requires. I especially love them for cold weather aerobic activities.

Before I got these, my go-to base layer was Patagonia Capilene, and I absolutely loved it and never had a single issue with it UNTIL I tried wool! This top doesn't retain odors and doesn't stink (can't say that much for Capilene), even after I wore them every day for a week straight on a mountaineering trip. I was worried about itching with wool as I have sensitive skin, but even when I was going hard, this top remained comfortable. I'm going on a three-week trip in a month and I've switched out all my next-to-skin base layers for wool.

I'm usually an XS (5'2", 100 lbs, petite frame) and the XS is "form fitting" while the S is "form skimming" on me. I could have worn either size but I kept the XS because I'm usually rocking a few layers so I like my base layers to be fitted. The sleeves are the perfect length and the top hits me mid-hip.

Nice baselayer or standalone

Reviewing on behalf of my wife:
Good lightweight base layer or standalone shirt. Some baselayers don't like to see the light of day by themselves, this is not one of those. In our experience, Icebreaker wool tends to be soft and smooth, and this is no exception. 200 weight is nice and light without being seethrough like some 150 weight wools can be. And like all merino stuff, it doesn't smell for a long time.

The perfect shirt for my wife is slim through the body with long arms, and Icebreaker sizing seems to fit that perfectly.

Fantastic!

Originally purchased it as a layering piece for some climbs in Ecuador, but I wear it so often that I ordered more. Super soft, well-cut, and the sleeves on the small fit my long arms (I'm 5'8"). The Horizon/Petunia color is great!

Great Travel Shirt

Love my Icebreaker shirts, the different weights make it easy to pack light and be ready for many different weather situations.

lightweight and good length

The Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Oasis Crew is a great lightweight merino thermal. It doesn't take on odour smells from use when cycling or running. I have owned a variety of thermals and this has the best fit and the best length. I definitely recommend this product!

Great shirt!!

Just got the shirt in and it's nice!! Athletic fit, good for movement, and flattering. I ordered a large so I have a little slack for undershirt. Sleeves are a little long but no problem. Neck is high for cold not scooped down. I'm looking forward to using in fall and winter hiking and cross country skiing. I already have a wool t-shirt (of another brand) so I'm expecting the same great properties. Fantastic for backpacking. These garment are how you transition to light and ultra light!! The non-stink factor is true also. I rarely use any synthetic short sleeved shirts in warm weather now. At this sale price don't wait - just order. Lisa from Maryland

Pricey but nice

Athletic, slim fit. Unless you want it hugging your skin, size up. The gray has a nice subtle texture; not a boring solid color. The Horizon/Petunia looks blue on my computer screen but in person it's really deep purple.

does anyone know the differences between the different blues (icicle, belize, whirlpool, etc.)?

Responded on

Horizon is more of a purplish blue and stream is almost a turquoise color. My wife has both and they are great looking colors.
