Love IT!!

I 2 in black and one in divine! I have strong, broad shoulders and typically wear a large in Icebreaker, when I tried this jacket on I definitely felt more comfortable in the XL. This jacket is very versatile, I have worn it hiking in March in Montana, and felt quite comfortable, also looks very nice as the outer layer when rounding in the hospital. It is a more structured piece when compared to any of the BodyFit pieces, and can look quite professional with a pair of slacks... though performs wonderfully when hiking the dog in the morning... I love it and would recommend it! I have gifted this to sister and sister-in-law and they feel the same!

Just order up one size for the best fit and comfort!

Feels like a million bucks

I can understand what folks are finding to criticize about the sizing of this jacket; it's a long, narrow, small-chested jacket with long arms. I happen to be a long, narrow, small-chested person with long arms, and I ordered my regular size and found that it's flawlessly comfortable and flattering. The fabric feels like the softest cotton hoodie and looks like one of those sleek softshells that stylish people wear around town. I love the length (I have an ungodly long torso and this jacket comes way down below my hipbones), the high zip collar, and, of course, Icebreaker is one of my favorite companies for its animal and environmental ethics. Glorious all around.

I do with all my Icebreaker pieces - cold, gentle and like colors, and just make sure to lay it flat to dry and I've had no problems. Just don't use the dryer!

Surprisingly useful purchase

By:
February 20, 2011

I agree with all the previous reviewers, this fleece does have some strange sizing issues. I bought it even though it seems large in the shoulder chest area and was completely stoked that it shrunk up there when I washed it. The divine color is gorgeous, rich dark plum. I have worn mine several days a week all fall and winter and find it to be my warmest icebreaker sweater, I own several hoodies and long sleeve zip tops. I am 5'2" and 100lbs and the xs wouldn't have fit with any layers underneath, so I bought it in a small.

Update: I saw this on SAC a few weeks ago and decided it was worth purchasing it in black in addition to the divine color I already owned. This fleece in both the divine and black look more tailored and high quality than in the photos, like a previous reviewer mentioned. I have worn my black fleece to work with business casual style clothes and it looks great and is so much nicer than your typical fleece in terms of having higher quality fabric that is wool not poly. The fabric is thick, but comfortable, and with its temperature regulating properties it is the obvious choice. Oh and the black fleece shrunk up like the divine did, so definitely size up!

An awesome performer, nice look

By:

This is a nice, comfy layering piece and much more functional than my 320 weight half zips. The medium matches the published sizing specs with room for a cami and a 200 weight scoop/V underneath. The inside is fleece wool, so very warm for the overall weight. I like that the collar is comfy and not too tight. And, the Divine color with violet trim is rich and gorgeous.

May 24, 2011 Update: I ordered another Igloo in black to wear as a layer on my way to the Arctic. Because I was adding more layers underneath (silk cami, icebreaker scoop and a Patagonia Wool 3 crew), I ordered a size up. When it arrived, It was so comfy that I immediately ordered a 2nd black. With a looser fit, I discovered that the deep pockets held a lot aka a nice bonus. I wore this under a Canada Goose camp jacket plus CG Snow Mantra parka and for the first time in 3 years, I was comfy and warm in minus 50 temps :-) The layered black shows slight pilling, but I had a lot weight over it.

I use the 2nd black zip as my air travel jacket. Both zips were washed in the washing machine and didn't shrink - nor did they show any fading from the rich black dye. Net:net: I'm lovin' this jacket and icebreaker wools are great.

I love Icebreaker but not this item.

I own many pieces of Icebreaker clothing and love them all, but I really did not like this and returned it. Here's why - it does not stretch, does not give at all! No likey!

SMALL!

By:

I normally wear a L or XL in Icebreaker clothing, and love everything I have (Rio pants, many long-sleeve shirts, underwear). I got an XL in this and it is more like a medium, no chance of even zipping.

Real fleece

By:

I love this sweater but I'd rather get the hoody in the divine which is no longer available. The black is completely black. I thought there was a purple trim.

Size runs only a tad bit small. Simply size up. It's very long, slightly passing my hip bone. The fleece is surprisingly a little stretchy and soft. I was expecting it to be stiffer.

Awkward shoulder design, runs small

By:
January 12, 2011

Fair warning: This runs smaller than most icebreaker tops. I have several tops in XL and this is way too small.

The other, bigger issue I have with it is the way the shoulders are cut. There's some extra fabric in the armpit area yet somehow the sleeves are attached in such a way that I can barely raise my arms. The affect is probably exacerbated by the jacket being too small, but even if the size were right, it would be an awkward shape.

I really wanted to love the jacket. The double-layers of wool make it warmer than my old single-layer zip-up. The color is great and the fabric is soft. But I think Icebreaker needs to rethink the cut.

Totally agree that the shoulder area fabric is cut weird. So sad that I had to return this, and I've loved all other Icebreaker stuff! It was tight across the chest (and I'm not big by any stretch), but fit fine everywhere else. I think this is just a bizarre error in the fit for this piece.
