Building kickers in the backcountry requires some serious comfort, and the Icebreaker Men's Base Layer 260 Pursuit Zip-Neck Long-Sleeve Top is an excellent place to start. Its merino wool regulates your body temperature so you won't get super sweaty while you dig or chilled when you stop for a snack break. It also stays fresh after multiple days without washes in between. In case you get too warm, Icebreaker integrated a half-zip at the collar for self ventilation. Flatlock seams decrease bulk to your ski outfit, and raglan sleeves are smooth on your arms. Gusseted arms give the freedom of movement you need to grab as much snow as possible.

I have been training for several half-marathons here in the NYC area this lovely winter of 2015, and this shirt has been a huge help in keeping me warm and dry. When the temp hits 30-45 this shirt alone is perfect. When the temp hits the 5-25 range I put on a lighter weight Icebreaker under it. Of course in both instances I have a jacket as the outermost garment. I have used a Smartwool and an Arctyrex for an outer garment. The moral of the story is this shirt rocks.
