Two weeks backpacking in Europe? A week on the AT? A summit-in-a-day fourteener? Grab the Icebreaker GT150 Velocity ¼-Zip Shirt. This shirt uses merino wool to naturally block odor (so your tent mates don’t pass out) and to manage moisture (so you feel less soggy and more comfortable). Eyelet gussets increase underarm breathability and a stash hip pocket holds a key or energy gel.

Bottom Line: For high-velocity adventures.

Great for cool to hot (not scorching) weather

By:

Great top to wear all day if you expect temps ranging from 60 to 85+. I have the all black version and it was just fine in direct sunlight at 87 degrees. The important bits - it breathes very well, particularly in the waffled sweat zones and keeps you from feeling hot and damp. With a light breeze, it cools fantastically. At the cooler end of the scale, I had expected the fantastic breathing ability to work against it, but, strangely, it didn't - it stays comfortably warm. If you're going to be doing more than a casual walk, I would expect that this top would be comfortable on its own at even lower temps.

Fit and finish - buy your normal size if you want it to be more form-fitting. Size up if you want it a little more casual fit (I'm 6', 205lbs - XXL is a casual, not sloppy, fit for me). Fabric is soft, very slightly scaly, but on the balance is far more comfy than cotton. Logos and zipper are reflective.

Super Light

This is the usal icebreaker quality pullover in a super light fine wool. Athletic fit - very breathable- and feels as light as a long sleeve tee shirt - good to about 50 degrees with short sleeve baselayer.

Does it also keep you cool in high temperatures reaching 100

At temps that high, i would lean more towards synthetic/compression for high aerobic activities, or loose fit/light colored synthetics for most others.

This is a fabulous and versatile top, but i think the above options would be better suited to temps near 100 degrees.

Light Wool, long sleeve zip. Dries fast, vents well. Does not hold ordor. 9 out of 10 because it could wick better.

Icebreaker evolves

Having made the wool migration several years ago, I've always wanted more breathability, and now I have it. These tops have body mapping fabric that is more porous in the "sweat zones". Used skiing and winter running and been very impressed.

Perry Walker

The GT 150 Velocity 1/4-Zip LS shirt is now the only 3 season (west coast) cycling shirt I will use now and in the future. I'm 6'1", 165 lbs., 41" chest, 34" sleeve and the large fits me perfectly. All the positive reviews I have read are consonant with my experience. Finally, I can't say enough about Backcountry's quality service.

Just what I was looking for

By:

This L/S baselayer is just what I was looking for. Lightweight, breathable, doesn't retain odor. Great fit and love the looks. They go great with my IB 150 bottoms for snow skiing and I even use them in TX when playing winter golf where the highs might be near 55/60. I'm 5'10" 170, 42" chest and went with an L. Can usually wear M, but I think L was best, non-binding and long enough sleeves.

Amazing Lightweight Shirt

By:
September 29, 2009

This shirt is amazing! I wore it for 6 days before I had to wash it. I went biking and running in it every day in 70 degree weather. It wicked away the moisture and protected my skin against the sun. Best of all, the shirt didn’t smell once I was done. Icebreaker GT is my new favorite active wear.
