Bras made purely from synthetic fabrics offer support but tend to breathe poorly. And merino breathes incredibly well, but, by itself, offers little support. The Icebreaker GT Run Rush Sports Bra blends the best of both worlds so that you get the support you need and the enhanced breathability and comfort that only merino wool can offer. Unlike traditional, long-cut wool fibers, merino wool?s fine-cut fibers are soft to the touch, because the last thing you need is an itchy sports bra. Merino wool?s natural fibers also provide excellent insulation and resist odors so you enjoy the Run Rush in any kind of weather.
For high-impact activities, support structure designed for women with A- and B-sized cups
250g/m?? fabric rating balances internal breathability and temperature regulation so you stay comfortable without overheating in a wide variety of temps
Icebreaker GT technology blends merino wool with Lycra to improve support, increase durability, and accelerate garment's dry time
Icebreaker makes its products in a way that supports New Zealand farmers, ensures overall welfare of the sheep, and promotes sustainable manufacturing practices
Bottom Line: Highly breathable bra for pavement pounders, trail runners, and climbers
I have this bra, and while I think it's supportive enough for me to run in, I definitely don't have much weight on the top. If you think only CW-X is supportive enough for you, I'd not recommend this one then. Also, have you tried any Patagonia bras?
"Supportive enough to run in" if you are a size... ? (Totally serious question. I'm an Icebreaker addict, but the only sports bra I've ever found that makes running remotely possible for me is the CW-X zip-front one.)
I never thought about wool sports bras until preparing for some long hiking trips in the mountains. I don't know if this is going to win the award to join the trip, but it is much more supportive and comfortable than I anticipated. In the summer heat it is noticeably hot, but I suspect it's supportive enough for short runs as long as it doesn't stretch. Size S fits perfectly - 32b-c ish with a muscular back.
The tags on the inside are scratchy and annoying, though.

I purchased my first Icebreaker merino item, a running shirt, a few months ago. I loved it, but lamented the discomfort of my regular poly/lycra running bra. I hate the way synthetic fabrics feel against my skin - especially when it's sweaty. I was so thrilled to find that Icebreaker also makes merino sports bras. Merino is the perfect fabric. It's so soft and comfortable and doesn't absorb moisture like cotton or feel nasty like nylon or poly/lycra. I own three of these and never want to put on a poly/lycra bra again.
I should also add that this bra offers great support - something I didn't care about until I joined the ranks of nursing mothers and realized what my bustier friends were complaining about.
I find very supportive. I'm like a 32c more like a 30c and got an XS. Will shrink though if you dry (tells you not to but I just through everything in the dryer). I am a big fan and have it in the pink and black and am waiting for the blue/purple to come back. Two thumbs up
As other reviewers pointed out, it is a bit snug at the band, but it is very supportive and comfortable, and after a while, I forgot all about it feeling snug. I am a 36B, and purchased the medium, and it seems to be working fine. Haven't tried it yet in damp or warm weather yet, so I cannot speak for its wicking abilities. However, I do own a sundry of merino wool clothing (tops, bottoms, socks, long underwear, etc.), and it hasn't let me down yet.
Not only is this comfy, but it allows me to lighten up my backpack as this is the one and only bra I need. No stinky means I can wear it over and over in full comfort.
I own a variety of merino products including bras by Icebreaker, I/O Bio and Ibex. While I love all of the above, the GT rush bra is the only one I would wear for high impact activities, such as running or aerobics classes. The XS fits a petite frame quite snugly.
Great bra, but you might consider sizing up. I have four Icebreaker tops that are S, and one XS but the bra was too tight for me to breath comfortably in a small. Luckily, Backcountry has great customer service to get the right fit.
This is a little heavy and the band does not stretch much so it's a little hard to get on over substantial breasts. That said, once it's on, it's very comfortable, gives adequate support for cycling (I'm not a runner so can't speak to that) and it's warm. It doesn't itch and I like the fit. I'm not sure I'd run out to buy another one but I am happy enough to have it and know I will get a lot of use out of it in the three cooler seasons.
Good support during weight lifting and spinning. I did not run in it nor do I plan on it - I wear specific running sports bras - but did very high impact spinning and weight training and it held up great.
The wicking seemed to work great (again - I do high intensity training so no material is going to keep me *completely* dry) and kept any odor away even during long workouts.
Only thing I can complain about - I wish it came in more colors! :)
And I wish there was a halter top version....but that's a whole 'nother email to Customer Service. ;)
I love everything merino, and this is a perfect addition to my collection. It's not binding, gives just the right amount of help, and is comfortable all around. I like my I/O Bio a teensy bit better, but not by much.
