Wear the slim-fit Icebreaker Men's BodyFit260 Altitude Zip Midweight Top as a base layer for extreme high-altitude adventures. Merino wool fabric possesses insulating properties that synthetics just can't touch. For starters, it prolongs the period of time before your body breaks a sweat, keeping you dry and comfortable for longer hikes and more ski runs. Merino also wicks moisture and won't harbor unpleasant odors, so you can wear the long-sleeved Altitude Top for days or weeks in a row—your alpine climbing partner won't be any the wiser. The versatile zip collar gives you climate control—as well as changeable style—and the underarm gussets provide a natural range of motion for all your cold-weather athletic endeavors.

Bottom Line: The Icebreaker Altitude Midweight Top keeps you dry and comfortable throughout your distant-peak pursuits.

Works and looks great

Icebreaker makes an amazing product. The wool does not itch and does not pick up odors like synthetics. The 260 is a great midlayer. I wear an Icebreaker skin layer underneath and bring the 260 in my pack if I get cold. I can then go to the bar for apre ski and look good and not stink.

Just curious on why most of the icebreakers gear is made in New

Just curious on why most of the icebreakers gear is made in New Zealand but this is made in China. Thanks.

Merino wool can only be found in New Zealand, Australia and New Jersey. The sheep are sheered and their wool is sent to China to be sewn, dyed and packaged.

Best base ever

By:
June 2, 2009

This is the only piece of ski wear I use everyday. I have 4 skis, 2 boots, and I dont know how many jackets, but they rotate. This goes out with me everyday (well I have more than one, but same style)It never smells, is warmer than poly pro, and dries almost as fast. I love the thumb loops. I have base layers from UA, TNF, SW, and Marmot. This wins hands down.

The only gripe I could produce is it does come up high on the neck. I like that style, but on one jacket, if the base is zipped its tough to zip the jacket all the way. More of a defect in the jacket than it is the base layer. If you don't want something to come high on your neck, look at the crew instead.

An excellent quality top!

By:
December 11, 2007

After running a total of 14 miles in two days in both incredibly hot and cold weather, it keep me both warm and cool and was incredibly breathable! Definitely a quality top, a little expensive, but def. worth the money in the end!

Awesome shirt, awkward neck.

By:

I really love the fit, softness, and quality of the shirt but I don't wear it much due to the awkward turtle neck. It seems too long to zip all the way up, looks odd if you roll it half way down, and if you leave it unzipped, it does not have the rigidity to stand up on its own but also doesn't lie like it should if you fold it down. I love the shirt, but I wish I could get more use out of the thing. It's also my only shirt with thumb holes which is a plus.

Great Base Layer

By:
January 29, 2009

This is a great base layer top. The 1/4 zip offers climate control, and the merino wool offers all of its benefits. Wicking, warmth, and never stinky. I like the neck, and find it nicely sized. Definitely not made to fold over though. Somewhat pricey, but a very nice technical base layer. I would buy it again, and am considering buying a "spare".

I love this top

Wool next to skin? Oh yes! I will never go back to polypro. This is soft, and makes polypro feel coarse and kind of plasticy. No smell? pretty true, at least It wont stink even after a day or two. It will smell, but more like you and less like BO, and less than a cotton shirt would smell. The thumbholes are nice in the cold, for keeping the undershirt in place when moving and reaching around a lot or even just to help when putting on your midlayer - but you dont have to use them, in fact the fabric is stretchy enough to push all the way up to the elbow. The high turtleneck is great if you are using it to stay warm - it will make a very easy and comfortable overlap with your balaclava. The construction is even nice enough to wear it just as a shirt so need to hesitate to strip down to just your base layer even in town. It is worth the price.
