I wear this shirt all the time and love it! It is extremely comfy and keeps you nice and warm, best of all it doesn't stink!
The hand thumbs are really nice and keep the cold out.
Only thing is after having this shirt for a couple years I feel that the length has gotten a little shorter ...
i'm 181 cm, 165 lbs and got myself a small. It fits snug but I like that for when i'm skiing.
Fabulously comfortable and practical

This shirt is really soft and quite warm, but not clammy, even when working up a bit of a sweat (cross country skiing), and, of course, no odor. The zipper does not snag, and closes up around my neck almost like a mock turtleneck. I wear a size Large and it fits perfectly. It could be tucked in or not, as the length is just right. The material is not itchy, although for a few minutes you might feel it on your neck, but I found this goes away quickly.

Just recieved this top for my birthday and immediatly took it backcountry for three nights peak bagging in the Chugach. Alaska in October is 20s to 40s Farenheit. This was the perfect top all on its own while active, huge improvement over my synthetic tops as far as the chill when I took a lunchbreak or whatever ( I sweat alot! ). Here is the catch (literally) there is not a zippper guard so whenever you zip up fully it catches on your neck or beard or whatever. Really? $100 for a top and this simple detail somehow got missed. After 4 days and some serious work... no stink, WOW! Its definitely a keeper just wanted to put it out there and mabye next years model will perfect the almost perfect baselayer.

A little pricier than I would like, but well worth it. This piece is comfortable, breathable, yet still very warm. The sleeves are plenty long (I'm a lanky 6'5" individual) and the thumb holes are a nice added touch. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good base layer.

i love patagonia, business model, environmental action, photos, etc. so it is hard for me to be unbiased. the Icebreaker gear i have is just so damn good. this is my favorite piece of gear from them. the 260 longjohns are awesome too! a buddy of mine has a pro deal with smartwool and although i prefer their socks, icebreaker makes far superior products.
good luck finding something better than this for midweight. i always wear this snowboarding, often take it with me on high elevation mtn bike rides. i never take a field trip (northern NM) without it.
Amazing comfort

This is extremely warm when combined with another layer of Merino, or on warmer days it can be worn by itself. The fit is great and it's very soft.
I don't think these can be beat.

I usually carry one of these to use as a mid layer when skiing/ hiking on really cold days, or by itself on a warmer day. It's high quality merino wool. It doesn't itch, they keep the stank down, and insulate and breathe. What more can you ask for!

Has anyone owned the crewe in this exact style? I just received the crewe today and it was short on the sleeves, and a little short yet boxy in a medium. I am usually a small/medium and skinny so I know the large would be way too boxy, I am curious is the Medium Tech Top is better on the length and a tighter fit, thanks to anyone that can help.

Lance, I own 3 medium Tech Tops acquired 1st in 2007, 2nd in 2009 and 3rd this year. I am a tall, 6' 1", skinny, size 38 long suit. The Tech Top fits me well and the body length is good. The sleeves are quite long and they end in what I find to be really well fitting thumb loops. The thumb loops have a very low profile, and I can easily wear them under liner gloves.
Hope that this helps.

This thing rocks, thumbholes, fairly thick and warm. Definitely a good investment. It is so warm that in the winter I'll often run in only this, or if I'm alpining, this and a gore-tex paclite shell.
Mine stretched out kind of funky over years of use and fits way differently now than it did a few back.
Icebreaker is like no other

Icebreaker wear is easily the most comfortable, light & warm gear there is. A big thankyou to the sheep in NZ for giving us this clothing.

From one campsite on a recent HPV tour. WHY DISCONTINUE THIS COLOR??? If I didn't already have three I would order another before it goes away!

WHY DISCONTINUE THIS COLOR??? If I didn't already have three I would order another before it goes away! Much better than the nearest wool garment I have worn. Very warm and comfortable. My grandson and I each wore ours every day of a recent trike (HPV) road trip (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=RrzKj&page_id=184366&v=A1) Many of the pages there show this garment. Everything good written on previous reviews is true: No oder, Very warm and comfortable etc... etc... etc... Yes, this is an under garment but I have and plan to wear it as outer every day it is cool enough. I ended up buying three. First image is my grandson

From Icebreaker-
Easy Care
We hope you will love your Icebreaker as much as we do. Icebreaker garments almost look after themselves as they don't hold moisture or odour. In fact, the known record for wearing an Icebreaker non-stop is 196 days in extreme conditions. Here are a few tips to get the best out of your Icebreaker.
Washing Instructions
* Use warm or cool machine wash on normal cycle
* Wash separately first (after 2/3 days use) to remove any loose fibres
* Wash with like colours
* Wash on a normal cycle with other hard fabrics to remove fluffing
* Never use a fabric softener
* Do not use detergents with bleach
* Do not tumble dry - Dry flat in the shade or on the clothes line
* Coastal and PurePlus garments are dry clean only
**a personal note: lay it flat on a towel to dry, hanging it wet causes stretching
Hope that helps.

This is my go to underlayer when it gets cold. With one of these and my OR ski jacket I can be down below 0 and still having a good sweaty time. Too bad they are made in china, but then everything is these days. No stink, no problems. Merino is the best and just about anything from IB is going to work awesome.
great

I can't see any room for improvement with this top. it's warm and breathable. I like to wear it with a softshell doing field work in the mountains. If you stick a lighter wool layer underneath, it's great for use without a shell. I've also used the Icebreaker 260 mens bottoms under goretex pants skiing and snowboarding, perfect performance.
I'm sure it's great.....

But I'll never know. Fit is fine except in the length dept.
It barely comes down to my naval. :(
Returned.

my biggest beef with this piece is its lack of durability. only one season old and this top has developed holes. I take extreme care of my gear and yet this one didnt hold up to moderate use. I think it may have to do with the wool content. I have found that my other merino pcs that contain a higher synthetic to wool ratio tend to hold up better. some may argue that you loose anti funk abilities and I would agree, but this is a cold weather piece and I often camp alone. I'll take longevity over stink ability 6 days a week.
I also found this piece to be the itchiest top I own. two other IB items i've purchased have had similar wear and tear issues.
