Cute and durable for me

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Wanted to chime in on this sweater - I purchased it for my wife and she has gotten a ton of compliments on it. I was pretty wary of a $150 sweater, but it actually is really nice. To speak to other folks' comments on piling and durability, she has hand washed hers several times and hasn't experienced any problems. I would still go with what Icebreaker recommends if I were you, just conveying my experience.

comfy - but pills super easily

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am a huge fan of Icebreaker, own a lot of their products, and this item is no exception...kind of.

Super comfortable, relaxed fit, soft material. I am usually a small, but got a medium due to lack of inventory at the time of purchase. Medium is a bit big (small would fit perfectly), but since it's a relaxed fit it still looks nice (sleeves are barely too long). Thumb holes are my favorite! Looks great with jeans or Icebreaker Breeze black skirt.

Downfall: I haven't washed it yet and have only worn it 2 or 3 times. The fabric has already pilled - a lot! So unfortunately this will turn into a fashionable outdoor shirt...

I have had this sweater for almost a year now and put it through the wash many times. I wear it so often that last Spring my husband started calling it my "uniform." I have not had a single problem with washing it in the machine and have not had any pilling. I machine wash on cold and lay it flat to try, then iron. Since it's merino and I usually wear it over something it doesn't have to be washed too often.

Dry clean ONLY !!

Read the care instruction on Icebreaker website before you buy. I made the mistake of getting my hands on this soft sweater, but according the Icebreaker website, this sweater is "Dry Clean Only". Even many cashmere sweaters are "Dry Clean". The difference between the two is that you can put the "Dry Clean" items in the "hand wash" cycle in the washing machine, whereas "Dry Clean Only" means just that, send it off to the cleaners who use chemicals to make your stuff smell like consignment store. For me, it kind of really defeats the purpose of buying this sweater in lieu of cashmere - although in contrast of IB merino, much of the cashmere in the market is not ethically sourced.

See my answer to the question above ^. I have never dry cleaned this sweater! I have always machine washed on cold and laid flat to dry and it's as beautiful as it was the day I bought it, which was almost a year ago.
