    The Best Base Layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

Ibex makes excellent stuff, period. This is no exception. It's very lightweight, merino wool (no stink), and man — who can pass up those stripes?!

I'm 5'6" and 115 lbs, which usually means XS, but I ordered up on this. The XS fit, but it was a little constricting in the armpits. The Small is a bit loose, but overall more comfortable.

    Best Yet!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I think I've finally concluded my quest for a long sleeve base layer that is 1. comfortable 2. fits well 3. does not reek after consecutive days' use.

This has been my go-to long sleeve for nordic ski workouts, alone or under a thin shell or vest, running, or simply cold-weather commuting through Utah.

I also brought it along as my cold-weather layer on a bikepacking trip last summer during which it never smelled nor showed signs of wear.

I've found this top to retain its shape better than the tank top version, even though they're the same material. It's been perfectly warm to about 30 degrees alone, and down to about 10*, depending on layering system above it.

I'm 5'6", 140, 32D, and the medium fits really well as a base layer

The Best - Alone or as a Base Layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I am a long-time lover of Ibex (and generally speaking, all things made of merino wool). I have several of these tops and just returned to get a couple more as over the years the older ones have stains (I'm a painter, so it happens) and/or holes (I have a dog coming out of puppy-dom who thinks everything is a chew toy). I pretty much live in these from November through April and use them as a sole layer or with other clothing on top. I wear them for exercise and for everyday wear and they function superbly for both. They are soft, comfortable, form-fitting but not restrictive, and wash really well. They do best when line-dried, but I've accidentally put a couple in the dryer on low-heat and they've survived without shrinking (surprisingly). Colors each season seem to vary which keeps things interesting too. The 220 base layer is also fantastic, just a bit thicker. These 150s are great, but slightly see-through on their own, particularly with the lighter colors. Both are fantastic though. Overall, I haven't found a base layer that I love more than these, so I highly recommend them to anyone on the hunt.

    comfy and warm

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

This top is soft and comfy and warmer than it looks. The torso is nice and long. The neck is high. I love love love that the arms are slim but not restrictive. This woolies top actually fits my arms - whereas the icebreaker arms are so baggy on me. The one thing I hate? The color. Rock Salt looks white in the picture. But its really sidewalk gray. Yuck. It doesnt go with my complexion or my clothes. The nice high necks means that hiding it under less outdoorsy clothes isnt possible. Based on warmth and comfort and fit - its a keeper. I've worn this sleeping, running, and hanging around the cold house. I would love to have leggings just like this. I just hope this 150 woolies top turns out to be durable.

Say YES to the Woolies Stripes!

My friend gave me a woolies crew for my birthday this year, and I absolutely LOVE it!! I wore it skiing on a trip to Telluride, which kept me warm and dry, and was even then able to wear it as my first layer around town (even after skiing in it!). This is why I LOVE wool, cause you can wear it for a few days and it doesn't smell...unlike some other unmentionable synthetic brands... Plus, it looks super cute under a vest, with your favorite scarf, and you'll be ready for a night on the town! Apres skiing, hiking, ice climbing, etc has never looked sooooo good!! Go for it, you'll be glad you did!

      Ibex Woolies Crew Top

The fit is perfect and it's comfortable. I forget I have it on. It washes beautifully with no shrinkage or stretch. And don't forget warm--it's very warm even on the coldest days we've had this winter. I'll buy this top again and again.

        Review Title

I forgot how awesome Ibex feels - it's slinky and slips over your body. Not to mention - SUPER WARM! :) This shirt is super super cute. It seems to stretch out (I have owned it less than a week and it is already stretched out) and it seems to pill a little. So if you are on the border of sizes, I would go down. And I would order 100 more of these tops because they feel so nice, but the piling part really is a turn off...
