My husband wore this in Colorado in 5 degree weather with a baselayer. He said it was incredibly warm and when it got warmer (30 degrees) it was almost too warm cuz he built up a sweat just walking around. He's stoked about using it to wear to football games when the weather's frigid. Then he doesn't have to carry piles of clothes with him.

The endearing shak has made an impression on me, for sure. Soft and well woven, I suppose there's a reason for it's legendary status for Ibex. Which, btw, is one of the best producer of wool clothing in the world. USA Made, terrific quality and I love how it fits snug which makes it functional as a base, mid or top. This partnered with a merino stoic t or my zepher zip t underneath can take me anywhere from 25f to 60f, courtesy of its zip feature. It's got a butt flap, which compared to the classic shak full zip makes it look a little frumpy as a top layer. I could care less really. Order with peace of mind...between backcountry.com and ibex's tear-free warranty, you cannot go wrong.

The Shak is a great merino piece. Ibex uses a special weave that makes it iron tough, while staying warm and true to its merino roots. I highly recommend the Shak.

I have a drawer full of Smartwool, Ice Breaker and Ibex. All three seem to use very good materials and to produce a nice end product. Ibex, however, is the only one that is made in the US. So it gets my vote.

One of the finest pieces of clothing i've ever worn. Very warm, very comfortable. Perfect fit, on the athletic side. I'm somewhere between a small and medium for shirts and the small is perfect for me, so it runs on the small side. I wear it in the mountains, to the office, and at home. not quite cozy enough for normal base layer duty, but it has worked just fine in a pinch. perfect over a thin base layer or t-shirt. Luckily it resists odor so you don't stink after a ski tour. Dries almost as quickly as synthetics. machine washable. tough. looking for a full zip on sale :)
