Was reluctant due to the price, but well pleased with the quality and warmth. This will remain a regular on my backpacking trips. Great to have a generous length zipper to regulate core temp and the option to fold down the neck. Worn with a thin windbreaker and capilene base, kept me quite (almost too) toasty during last w/e's hike in 5-12F weather. From the look of the stitching it seems as though it will be quite durable.

As a huge fan of both Patagonia Capilene and Patagonia Wool shirts and layers, how is the Ibex shirt different? Both Patagonia Wool and Ibex Shak are made out of merino wool, any benefit one over the other?

Not really a benefit, but a difference. The Patagonia is more of a t-shirt cut, while the ibex has more of an athletic cut. Both use 100% Merino. Think of the Shak Sport as what you'd get with the thickness of Capilene 3, but instead it is made of !00% Merino vs. recycled plastics into polyester, and it has a body hugging cut.

...and it is a shirt, not a sweater, as stated by some other dealers. The fit is form fitting, but not tight & long enough to tuck in. It can be worn agaisnt the skin although it is billed as a midweight. It is not 1.5 pounds as I was told by some knucklehead "expert"; it is less than 14 ozs. It is soft and very warm and very well tailored. This ibex is in the same class as the Patagonia wool zip 3...a litle heavier and maybe even a little better quality. No more plastic for me!

Are any of your Ibex Men's shirts from last year? They've changed their designs, and the new ones are too short and wide for my husband. I'm looking for a Shak or Zephyr or something similar from last year in a large or extra large.

The fit and quality of wool is perfect for keeping your core temperature just right whether you are skinning up or bombing down. Personally I feel this is a better product than similar Icebreaker or Patagonia products.
