Pull on the Ibex Women's Hooded Shak Sweater for a warm, high-performance midlayer on the mountain or schlep through town looking cute and staying warm. This 100% dense-knit merino wool hoody offers up superior warmth to those old synthetic layers and allows heat to escape as you work your way through the trees. If you really work up a sweat, unzip the nine-inch zip neck. Schlep through town on a chilly day with your arms in the Hooded Shak's thumbholes and your style in check. Flatlock seams ensure zero chaffing, and easy care wool means you can throw this right in the wash.
Bottom Line: On the mountain or downtown, the Ibex Hooded Shak Sweater offers up high-performance and killer warmth.
too scratchy (for me that is, I have super sensitive skin). also did not like the bulky arm seams for the same reason. bit disappointing since some other ibex stuff I tried was very soft. would have worked with a microweight long sleeve shirt under it but the fit was too tight for that.
I've had mine since July. Love how versatile this hoody is. The wool is tighter woven than the Icebreaker's 320g/m2 sweaters, so the fabric pattern looks nicer, which makes them more adaptable in both formal and casual situations. The tighter knit also makes this hoody more wind resistant than the Icebreakers. I got the black one, and wore it in July in cool southern California nights. Wore it on a few trips on the airplane, and during a semi-formal conference. This past weekend, we went hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was 48 degrees out with 30 mph gust. I wore the hoody on top of an Icebreaker superfine t-shirt, and under an Arc'Teryx Gamma MX jacket. When the wind was blowing really hard, I put on the hood, I wasn't hot or cold. So, if you want something to wear summer and winter, in semi-formal and casual occasions, get this hoody. And I'd definitely recommend the hoody over the pullover. The hood makes it a lot more versatile.
I just purchased this black hoody...love it. A fitted, flattering sweater that's warm, too. I'm 5'5 130lb and the medium fit perfectly. I'm going to get the brown one, too.

I have one (in blue) and we just bought this one in Black for my wife. Made in USA, merino wool, super soft even next to skin. We have worn ours biking and then to lunch and we dont stink and look stylish and hip (date-mates, I guess?). We have a few pieces of Ibex now and keep replacing our synthetic fleece with their product; it's natural, made in US, and is made with great care and styling. Hard to find in the outdoor arena now. On a side note, I normally wouldnt have bought a hoody for myself but I love this one and the woman's cut is quite complementary to my wife. Get one!!
This bomber mid layer went with me to the mountain every ski day last year, and it stayed in the top of my drawer during the warmer months, too. The nice athletic fit leaves just enough room for a base layer, and the contoured hood went on perfectly under my ski and bike helmets. It stood up to countless washings, dried quickly, and never held a stink. I absolutely love 100% merino fiber for breathable warmth. And the Shak is stylish enough to wear around town, too.
I love the fact that this is an excellent and functional top that is still flattering; womanly seams give it some shape. The hood is snug & fits under my helmet on super-cold days; admittedly it can get in the way with layering, but it provides a lot of warmth when I need it. The fit is athletic without being tight. I usually wear a large & the same is true in this top. Sleeves are plenty long with thumb loops & the top is long enough for me to tuck in for skiing, but also not too sloppy to leave hanging out. Other bonuses: flat seams are delightful, washes well, & made in the US.
