Simple design, just enough support

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'5"
    Weight: 135 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

I'm a 34C/D and found the size medium to be just enough support for activities like biking, hiking, skiing or practicing yoga. This is a traditional style sports bra - no bells or whistles (or padded cups) - just quality merino wool and spandex in a simple racer back design. The cups (and body) are double layered to provide that little lift, tuck and extra coverage in front when things get more exciting. I recently wore this on some long travel days and found that after 12 or so hours the elastic nature of the beast wore on me, but for daily exercise and running around town this is my new go-to. May be a little snug around the torso at first but I find merino/spandex items give a little after wearing/washing a few times.

Only for yoga

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs large
  • Height: 5'6"

    Size Purchased: large

I have two Ibex bras that are truly amazing pieces of engineering but they don't make them anymore. It was a bra with adjustable cross-back straps with a full body, kind of like a tank top with a very compressive bra built in; perfect for trail running and things needing support yet many hours of comfort. Sadly this bra is apparently the closest alternative, but I found it to provide absolutely zero support. I wear a 34 C or D normally, and bought the large because reviewers said it runs small. I did not find that to be true at all. It does not run small in sizing. I cannot size down from a large to a medium becuase the strapping across the rib cage is exactly right on me since I have a slightly broad back and wide shoulders; so the medium even if the cups are smaller and better support, will be far too tight around my rib cage to make it comfortable for long days of hiking and scrambling. I have tried many, many bras from various companies, and they all seem to be trying to copy each other yet none of them are making something that i would say is truly amazing, aside from that old model of Ibex bra tank mentioned above, however that was not good for summer as it was fully body and a bit too hot, but great in winter.

Does the Ibex balance sport bra have padded cups, or simply an unpadded double layer of wool? What about balance bralette, or Smartwool PhD bras?

I just bought this, and no, it does not... that was an older model that was better than this current model which in my opinion does not give any support because the cups are just stretchy material. It's pretty much like not wearing any bra at all (I'm a size 34 C or D depending on bra type and this gave zero support in size large; and I cannot size down otherwise the rib-cage area will be way too tight for me.)
