Description

Comfort never felt so fresh and so clean.

That's it, you're done wearing polyester undies that wick moisture but stink to the high heavens when you're out on a trip. The Ibex Women's Balance Brief combines merino, nylon, and spandex for an undie that is soft, wicks moisture, and is naturally odor free so you'll feel fresh and clean even when you've been in the field for weeks on end.

I pretty much agree with the June 2011 review. I wore these on my Appalachian Trail thru hike for about 4-5 months or so? With intermittent washings, of course. I can't be sure if I ever messed up and put them in the dryer but they held their shape well. I'm 5'4', 130-135lbs, hippy, and usually wear a dress size 6. In my case, I wore the small and kept them even though they were a little tight. I'd have gotten the panty line effect if I had been wearing see through bottoms. But I didn't want them too big so they wouldn't ride up. I agree that the angle is a little steep, but not too steep for my body type (think Jlo...). I wore exofficio, smart wool, and icebreaker underware also, and these tied for my favorite with smart wool. The icebreaker ones I had gotten were too heavy for summer and not stretchy enough. Exofficio stank up fast. These were really up there in quality for backpacking undies. I didn't get any holes or runs in them. The only problem I had with them was staining. I got a teal blue color and stains would never come all the way out.

I love these undies. After auditioning many pairs of wool undies from several companies, I find that the quality of this product far exceeds that of other companies. They aren't flimsy, they stay perfectly in place with no wedgies or riding up, and are just the kind of cut I prefer in a bikini. That being said, I echo the complaint that another reviewer made that they don't come in an XL. For comparison's sake, I take a size 6 in your average Jockey-type bikini, and got a large in the Ibex. They fit, but they're ever-so-slightly snug, and give just a little muffin top at the top band. This is not cool, and I feel like an XL would solve this problem. I really can't believe they aren't made in that size. This is the only reason I've knocked it down to 4 stars--otherwise I adore them. Honestly, Ibex!

I like hipster style underpants. I wish someone made them in wool. Patagonia's bikini bottoms are a good style, but they don't make wool ones. I tried a pair of these, with high hopes. The fabric and color are great, but the cut seemed suspiciously steep to stay in place. The elastic was so tight, though, that they seemed to stay put initially. Alas, within 2 washes in cold water (no dryer) the elastic wouldn't dig into my upper thigh anymore (which was the only thing holding it in place since the bikini style is cut too sharply to stay put from cut alone) and they started to ride up. Busy nurses can't be adjusting their undies all the time, and nothing makes a long day longer like having your underpants shifting around under your scrubs. If these were cut in more of a hipster style, I would buy like 10 pair and get rid of all my other underpants.

Why? WHY don't these come in XL? I'm not...

Why? WHY don't these come in XL? I'm not out of shape, not a giant fat chick, just very tall and therefore proportionally larger. I am so tired of having to wear men's stuff because manufacturers don't think tall women exist...especially in underwear, for crying out loud. MERINO UNDIES FOR TALL GIRLS!!! <---feeling better after my rant. But seriously, Ibex, and other manufacturers: only up to a size L in women's when the men get up to XXL? Seriously?

I have collected three pairs of these beauties.....They breathe, stay in place, dry in about 3 hours, never ever carry an odor, and last forever!! My daughter stole my first pair and did Outward Bound kayaking in them.....I think they got worn probably for the entire trip. They were faded after that...lasted another year or so until they developed a hole which frayed. One thought tho; - I wear a 4 or a 6 in pants/shorts and weigh about 120 lbs - 5/2". I prefer the Large cause I hate too tight undies. Medium would probably work, though, so I suggest sizing up by about one size....and no, the large is NOT loose on me...but no panty lines either. I have messed up and thrown them in the dryer and they really didn't shrink much.
