Awesome Bra!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 2"
    Weight: 110 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

The Ibex Balance Bralette is a stellar every day bra or low-impact activity holster. Hands down this is by far the best low-impact sports bra that I have ever had. I'm continuously impressed with how quick-drying, anti-odor, and anti-chafing it is. My purchase was inspired by my husband, who has been raving about his Ibex merino wool underwear for months now. And now, because of this bra, I too am incredibly obsessed with utilizing merino wool as underwear, especially when conducting aerobic activities. I went with the black color, as most of my sports bras are dark colors.

What I love the most about this bra is its versatility - I can hike, climb, and bike in this bra without feeling like I've got the Florida Everglades amassing in my chest. I have run in this bra before, but was also wearing a tank that has a built in bra already in the shirt. The bra held up fine, but I prefer to be a little bit more compressed than I was. The straps can be adjusted to a "spaghetti strap style" basic bra or cross back for racer-back style shirts or a little extra support - and the straps are very stable. I haven't had any issue with the straps suddenly coming loose from its respective loop, which I've often experienced with interchangeable bras. The strap adjusters are low-profile and very smooth. The ruching in the front is very subtle and isn't noticeable under thin shirts. The material is double paneled, so you're not super "showy" but it's not like you're wearing wonderbra armor.

As for the fit itself, I'm 5'short (2 or 3, who knows), weigh 110 pounds and wear anywhere between a 36A or a 34B, depending on the kind of bra. All of my boob weight is in my lower portion of my chest, so I find that while a size small sports bras fit, they often squeeze me uncomfortably in my upper rib cage. Additionally, I had read reviews about Ibex bras and the consensus was that they ran small. So, with all of this in mind, I purchased a size medium and it fits so wonderfully. The band is fairly thin, so there's not much support there by any means, but the fit itself is incredibly comfortable (and it doesn't look like I've got a uniboob). The band is fairly wide from mid chest to back, mostly consistent. The textile holds up to washings extremely well. I often prefer to hand wash my stuff, but it's held up in the washing machine just fine. And was accidentally dried by the manpanion and didn't shrink (thank goodness). This bra is amazing and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a low-impact merino wool bra.

Backpacked over 1,000 miles in this one

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 4"
    Weight: 130 lbs
    Size Purchased: Small

I walked the second half of the Appalachian Trail wearing this bra. I pretty much kept it on unless I was washing it. It wicked great, was warm when I needed it to be warm, and it didn't feel cold and clammy when wet.

I'm 5'4" and was around 130 lbs on the trail but mostly leg muscle. So I'd say I was a 34AA at the time and the 2012 model fit great in a small. I ordered the small again, as my original one is a little thread bare and stretched out in the straps after about 6 months of near continuos wear. And the 2014 small feels a bit small. I have certainly gained back some weight on top since 2012, but am still around a 34A. I wouldn't say it cuts into my curves exactly, but a medium might have been better this time. The 2012 said "Climb the Mountains and get their good tidings." and the 2014 one says "The art of wool." I will still wear it and hope it stretches a little or will save it for another backpacking trip where I'm likely to loose weight on top again.

great review. I am a 32B and bought one of these a couple years ago. Just a bit big for me and it rides up. So the new version may be just right. (BTW, 5'5

Totally worth it!

I'm very happy with my Balance Bralette! The straps are interchangeable, so I can wear with regular tanks and racer back straps. The bra is very soft and provides good support for my yoga and hiking. Great for multi-day backpacking trips, no stink! You may need to size up - I'm a 30/32 B and am comfortable in the Medium.
