We’re not going to pigeon-hole the I/O Bio Merino Women’s Contact 1 Glory Hooded Zip Top, because you may find it is juuust right for a number of activities. The top’s lightweight, stretchy merino wool fabric’s ability to wick, breathe, and regulate temperatures will make it a natural for active cool-weather wear or winter layering. On the other hand, the casual style, fun hood and thumbholes, and zip neck make this hoody ideal for a yoga class or knocking about town. Whatever you do with it, you’ll appreciate merino’s natural anti-odor properties.

Bottom Line: Refuses to be pegged.

Favorite new hoodie

I got this as a gift and absolutely adore it. I/O Bio merino is by far the highest quality merino I've seen; it is much softer and more luxurious to wear than Icebreaker, Stoic, Smartwool, or Nau. It just feels and looks great--perfect as a stylish light hoodie about town or as a baselayer. It is very closefitting, which combined with the (much-beloved) thumbloops makes it great for layering. The hood is very close-fitting as well, and would fit easily under a helmet or hat--though it isn't nearly as attractive for day-to-day wear with the hood up.

I'm not familiar with I/O brand. It states "lightweight";.

I'm not familiar with I/O brand. It states "lightweight". Does that mean 140-160 weight, as opposed to 160--190 mid weight and 190-240 heavy weight?? IceBreaker and SmartWool both use the weight (thread count per sq in) to describe thickness/warmth of item. Can you advise??? I'm really interested in the hoody, but not if it's only 140-160, since I consider that a summer weight.

This hoody--if taken by itself--is definitely a summer weight item. It's thinner than most T-shirts, though of course it's also warmer as it's made out of merino. It's real strength is that precisely because it's so thin it will layer seamlessly and comfortably beneath absolutely anything. I took it on a fall backpacking trip recently and wore it pretty much constantly the entire time as a base layer.

I/O Bio's Contact 1 line is all 160 gm/m2, it's safe to assume this is as well.

My perfect baselayer

The Glory Zip is my new favorite baselayer for snowboarding both at the resort and in the backcountry. The fit is perfect - snug like a base should be, but just loose enough to roll up the sleeves when you get hot hiking. And the snug hood fits perfectly under a helmet without overheating you like a hat does. Not to mention this top looks great - I also wear it out around town a lot. It has a flattering cut and the contrast stitching is a nice detail. Plus, you can wear this many times before needing to wash it even when you work up a big sweat because it just doesn't stink!
