This is not as dead simple as a pump filter... but it is so much lighter. This is not really a filter per say... so be sure to use something to get the big chunky stuff out. (I use a coffee filter). I have used this in some pretty nasty stuff, and I haven't got sick yet... so, it must be working!

Don't really need to mince words with this one. I take it backpacking and traveling.I use it. I drink the water. I don't get sick. It works and weighs next to nothing.
