Description

Ski more. Save money on lunch. Reinvest that money into next year's ski pass. Ski more. What an awful cycle.

A couple of thoughts: The average lunch break at the ski resort costs $20 and cuts 45 minutes out of your total skiing time. The average chairlift ride from base to top takes about the same amount of time to complete as eating 12-ounces of home-prepared soup. Coincidence? The designers of the Hydro Flask 12oz Food Flask didn't think so, either.
  • Double-wall vacuum-insulated design keeps hot meals hot for up to 3 hours and cold treats cold for up to 12 hours
  • BPA-free design keeps harmful chemicals out of your body and out of the environment
  • Wide-mouth opening means that you can fill your belly with nourishing goodness as rapidly as you'd like
  • Note: not microwave safe

Everyday Use

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Perfect canister to prepare oatmeal in before work and have on break, I use this every day!! I love it! heating the Hydro Flask is what takes the longest but is worth it!

Practical for everyday usage.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've been using the 18oz and 40oz flasks for tea and liquids for some time and I have been very happy. But....

I had a hunch that this product could cook nine grain cereal effectively with the jar's excellent heat retention. Sure enough I was right! I scoop the desired amount of (dry) nine grain into the jar and add a small amount of hot water from my tea kettle, and in about 10 mins, it is perfect! I've tried to find the best way to cook nine grain in the mornings, and this is by far the fool proof way. Microwaving or cooking on the stove requires too much tending and cajoling. This is the best solution! I plan to use this everyday!

Perfect for its niche

Is it limited by a 3-4 hour lifespan on keeping food hot? yep.
Is it too heavy to take backpacking? yep.
Does it only hold enough food for one? yep.
Do you need to preheat it with hot water? yep.
Is it amazing to have hot oatmeal at 10:30 in the morning at work or at the mountain? You know it.

Slightly wider than a Nalgene.

Hot Cup-o Chili

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Ever wish you had a warm tasty treat at the peak of your favorite tour? Look no further! I bought this for both lifestyle and outdoor purposes. Good way to have a hot breakfast in the morning on your way to work, but even better a hot cup of chili or soup when you are out in the elements and looking for a way to warm things up a little.

will this keep food cold as well?

will this keep food cold as well?

Responded on

Besides saying so in the write-up above, insulation works both ways...hot food hot and cold food cold. The write-up also says it does a better job with keeping things cold for longer. So even with all questions concerning the second law of thermodynamics aside, according to the manufacturer, I think we can take that as a yes.

Does not retain heat

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was excited to get my Hydro Flasks because I read many great reviews. These containers do not retain heat. As many other reviewers stated, you need to "prime" the vessel by preheating it with hot/boiling water for 5-10 minutes and warm up the food to piping hot temperature. I did all that. I put the food in at 7:30am, but by 12pm the food was lukewarm.
I believe these containers are better at retaining cold temperatures. This did not work for the purposes I needed which was for a hot lunch. I returned them.

Hydro Flask advertised that it only keeps food warm for 3-4 hours: http://www.hydroflask.com/products/12-oz-stainless-steel-food-flask.html

Are Hydro Flask products made in the USA? all of them??

Responded on

Hydro Flask products are made in China.

They are made in China but the website has a great write up about how they provide fair wage and regulate the type of factories that their products are made in. Not the typical "made in China" junk that we see all over the place.
