Awesome material, but missed the mark.

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I really wanted to love this jacket. I used it for about a year while resort riding as well as splitboarding and winter hiking. The coconut material was awesome, really did breath amazingly well. I love the style and color, when I got it a year ago it was definitely a unique look on the mountain. However there were two things that I couldn't get over. 1) the sleeves were a bit short. They would cover your gloves when you had your hands at your sides, however when your arms were fully extended in front of you, the sleeve would come up past your wrist exposing your skin/underlayers to the elements. 2) The zipper never really broke in for me. It continued to stick due to the large teeth and was a pain to operate.

Purple People Eater

I bought the Purple With Teeth 2.5L jacket for the soggy Northwest snow and I was happy to find that this jacket is not only very breathable but VERY waterproof. I love the hood and face mask features for cold chairlift rides. The "With Teeth" is pleasantly soft for a shell, and so far has proven to be very durable. Only complaint is that the zippers are stiff, but they break in. Size down. I'm a solid medium and I went with a small here. BC processed my size exchange seamlessly. Pro.

    Floridiot Teton Test

I'd give it 4.5 or higher. I've never worn a jacket this nice, and for the sale price vs. list it can't be beat comparing specs vs. the competition. The main, minor drawbacks are as follows:

There isn't a membrane or foreskin of sorts on the wrist sleeves. Minor, minor deal. The main zipper is a little sticky (could be newness) The hood isn't detachable. The clasp on the lower pocket lanyard (on mine anyway) has a gap and stuff easily slides off. The underarm vent zipper cut the $#!+ out of my thumbtip when carelessly loading luggage into my car pre-trip.

Other than that, I was very pleased. It's pretty light and packs much more tightly than my older, cheaper 3-in-1. The magnets are a well-thought out feature. It felt warm in the cold but breathable in the mid 50s. The hood fits over a helmet, although I couldn't zip it all the way up and get it over my fat head. I would ride powder, gaping and dorking all day, take it off, and it would be dry by dinnertime.

I wore it mostly in mid singles-twenties and heavy snow (scored this trip). The wrist velcro cinch + glove cinch kept snow out fine. My philosophy is to buy fancy under gear, overdress, and let the fanciness wick moisture. I was sweating like a corn fed swamp hog while wearing a light base + mid base + light zip fleece and this jacket. It is not completely uninsulated, but still seems like more of a shell than a bubblegoose for sure. I probably could have worn only one base and the thin fleece and this and been perfect the entire time, other than the first post-lunch lift ride.

If you surf, my general cold fairy scale is as follows: 70-69 top, 68-66 2mil spring, 66-63 2mil shortsleeve full, 62-60 2mil full, under 60 = 3/2 and boots, gloves go on under 55, and under 50 in gloves, booties, and hoodless 3/2 I'm dealing but hating life and feeling like I'm going to pass out when I duck dive.

On a sunny day with no wind and no breaks in riding you could probably wear a base layer and this jacket and be fine. Thankfully I wouldn't know because it puked blower for a week, praise Ullr peace be upon him.

      Lovin' Homeschool

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I am very impressed with my Homeschool gear. It has been a few years since I have upgraded but I have purchased nice gear in the past (Burton, Solomon & Spyder). I'm not sure if things have really changed that much but the difference is outstanding. I have the revolver pant as well.

Good colors, very durable, breathable & waterproof fabric.

This jacket and the revolver pant are more on the slim fitting side but I feel just right with a base and mid layer on. I am 5'-9 165 and I went with a small Jacket and medium pants.

I don't enjoy looking like I could stash an AK under my Jacket.

To sum it up I hard time deciding to go with an unfamiliar product but I couldn't be happier.

This jacket is great. its a shell so no insulation. i never get sweaty because it breathes nicely and keeps the water and snow out. the zipper is heavy duty but does tend to get stuck when you zip, this should stop after the jacket has been used a while. i am 6"1 155lbs and it fits great. there is no hand apparatus at the end of the sleeve to keep the snow out when your gloves come loose. i recommend this jacket, i got the earth color and it looks good, wasn't my first choice though. the interior lining pattern is a bit weird but doesn't matter i guess because its on the inside.

My "With Teeth" jacket is busted due to a defective zipper. I purchased this from (whiskymilitia) less than a year ago. Will backcountry process the warranty or should I go through the manufacturer (Homeschool. Also does the lifetime return policy apply to whiskymilitia purchases?
