Description

Conqueror of cushioning.

You're a no-nonsense type of woman who talks straight and doesn't dicker with trivialities. Just because you take a hard-line approach to life doesn't mean you don't relish the incredibly plush ride of the Hoka One One Women's Conquest Running Shoe. Succulent cushioning doesn't interfere with the minimal 4mm drop so the shoe stays true to your midfoot gait. An innovative midsole material helps this maximally cushioned shoe keep the weight low so you've lots of spring left in your step for a few extra miles.
Closed mesh up top rebuffs the flotsam and jetsam littering the sidewalks. No-sew construction eliminates snarky seams that often rub your foot the wrong way. With just one hand you can tighten the Race-Lace System so the shoe stays snug on your foot. The midsole of the Conquest demonstrates Hoka's commitment to giving you a crazily cushioned road shoe. R-mat, an injection-molded foam, sits within the full-length compression-molded EVA footframe. This dynamic duo of midsole magic offers weight-to-resilience ratio and step stability so you can run sure-footed through empty city streets.
The Meta-Rocker Geometry works cooperatively with the midsole materials to economize your gait. When you can't avoid puddles, the water drainage system helps this Hoka dry quickly. The more of your sole that sticks to the ground the better the chances of you staying vertical. The Full Ground Contact design puts the entirety of the high-abrasion rubber sole on the asphalt for terrific traction on pavement. It's not an abdication of faith to choose a cushy road running shoe just because you eschew all other forms of creature comforts.

Hoka Conquest

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I got these shoes at the suggestion of my physical therapist. I have had 3 surgeries on my left knee. They are definitely super cushiony and feel much better in that regard than most running shoes I've tried. On the trail, it takes a big of getting used to the height of them over un-even terrain. That being said, I had no troubles on my first trail run. These shoes are bright and showy. I don't really feel like you can get away with doing a run and then wearing them out and about, but that's me. Overall I really like them so far and I think they are easier on my joints. I never was one for the minimalist running shoes...

Hoka Conquest

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

Ok, I was expecting perfection from all I'd read on these shoes. Well, they were almost perfect, except for the material the soles are made of. I returned them to HOKA as defective (they were past the 30-day period that Backcountry.com takes returns), as the soles showed wear on both shoes after less than 50 miles. I'll reserve my final review until they hopefully replace the ones that I returned. Other than the sole issue, I found them to fit larger than expected. Very generous all the way around. On every running shoe I get, and I've worn every brand there is, I wear a 10.5. After reading the reviews, I got a 10. Now I'm wondering if I could have gotten a 9.5. The cushioning is pretty decent and felt great on a 10 mile run. I felt like I was 10 ft. tall when I first tried them on, but quickly got used to the more than average height from the thickness of the soles. These are decent shoes, but not worth the $170. Sorry HOKA.

I posted the original note on these and I have a follow-up review. HOKA replaced my "defective" shoes without any problem. I got my new Conquests and tried them out the next day. I have the same issue with the soles. The super-thin black part of the sole is just that "super-thin." After one run they showed wear. Come on HOKA. You need to re-think this design. Other than the soles, I have no complaints and totally love the shoes. For $170 I expect a lot more.
