Everyday comfort with a race-day fit.

While there's a veritable cornucopia of bib shorts out there that tout comfort, most designs are anchored to rider feedback and not rider designs. This is where Hincapie Sportswear comes in. As we all know, Big George knows a thing or two about a long duration in the saddle, and out of this experience came knowledge. Luckily for you, this education in suffering has led to its relief with Hincapie Sportswear's Edge Bib Shorts.

Hincapie approached the Edge bib shorts with a series of objectives in mind. Basically, the Edge was to represent the key fundamentals of bib shorts — a light overall weight, a comfortable and supportive fit, and a drag-reducing design. Luckily for you, Hincapie achieved each of its goals. Starting with the bulk of the construction, the Edge bib shorts features the soft-to-the-touch, ultra-lightweight TourTek Compressor fabric. At a svelte 225 GSM (a measurement of fabric weight), TourTek provides the best of both the polyester and elastane worlds. The blend ensures that you benefit from the gentle feel and powerful wicking of polyester, while maintaining the supportive fit and aerodynamic edge of elastane. Additionally, the weight of the fabric gives it compressive support that helps promote positive bloodflow to the muscles. And while it's not enough to technically classify the Edge bib shorts as a compression piece, the effects are still more than notable.

For breathability, and further weight reduction, the Edge bib shorts features Diamond Mesh at the bib straps. This produces an effective airflow through the uppers in order to keep you cool, and to aid in rapid moisture evaporation. Additionally, it also aids the fit and movement of the bib shorts with its malleable composition. So, when you bend and flex in the cycling position, the Diamond Mesh construction helps the braces move with your body, not against it.

As for the fit of the bib shorts, Hincapie designed the cut for the position and movements of cycling. Accordingly, the shape hangs on a bit of a contour, and thus affords the Edge bib shorts a true next-to-skin fit. Further assisting this are the securing features of the bibs. You'll notice that the leg openings don't use any elastic. Instead, Hincapie opted to use its HyperOptic elastane. This material provides a more even compression compared to an elastic gripper. Additionally, it creates a seamless surface for ideal airflow, furthering the bib shorts' aerodynamic properties. Just as impressively, HyperOptic looks ordinary by day, but in low-light conditions, it's highly reflective. This bolsters your visibility to motorists when your ride goes a little bit longer than expected.

For the chamois, you'll be resting on Hincapie's Pro Chamois. Comprised of a variable density, perforated foam, the Pro insert supports the regions that need it most, without impacting the ones that don't. So, the focus has been placed at the perineal, ischial, and gluteal areas — the points most prone to distress from saddle pressure and compression. To account for hot spots and abrasion, the Pro uses a seamless construction to create an abrasion-free support structure. And at the center of the insert, Hincapie has placed a center relief channel that promotes increased circulation by protecting nerves like the pudendal — the primary source of numbness when compressed.

The Hincapie Sportswear Edge Bib Shorts are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black, Clay, and Classic Blue.

At first these bibs seemed nice, but it didn't take long for them to stretch out and lose grip. The legs ride up, creating some discomfort and annoyance. I got some good riding out of them, but only months worth. I'm done with Hincapie clothing.

Hincapie clothing sucks just like him

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Let me start by saying I've used many versions of Hincapie clothing over the past 8 years, partially because I live in the town where the company is based (Greenville SC). Having worn many other brands (Giordana, Assos, Nalini, Craft, Champion System, Castelli), I can honestly say that Hincapie clothing is the worst fitting junk I have ever worn. Their jerseys are poorly tailored, shorts are always too long and have poor pad placement, and the price is way overpriced for what you get. This particular piece is once again too loose in the seat, too long, and too tight at the ends for me, and average 6'2" 170LB rider. My team wore these a couple years ago, and I could barely make it through a 30 mile ride before chafing and overall suffering in the nether regions set in. I highly advise that you stay away from this short (and anything else Hincapie makes). Besides, George "earned" his millions by doping for many years, cheating for a living, and basically acting as Lance's right hand man through the height of the doping scandals. So I would never again wear anything he has his name connected to.

Far too big in the legs

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The material seems nice and so do the seams. Very light and airy but the sizing seems off. The legs seems so loose with no elastic on the thighs. Be careful on sizing.

Excellent price and decent bibs

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

The feel is really nice and light. Looks nice as well. The price was great since I only paid $56 for it. The chamois is not bad/not good. Its OK, I guess. I've had better and worse. But if you pay full price or above $80...its not a good deal. But for what I paid it is nice.

bibs run big with little leg support

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

colors are nice but label warns about discoloring I would not recommend this product and the worst is that is going to cost me money to return it, you always get what you pay for .made in china or somewhere in colombia what can I say they are cheap all around they are very large is not true to size chart, there is no retention leg band at least not supportive this is one of the worst I have had as bibs goes don't waste your money on it
