Description

What winter? It's time to ride.

Hincapie made its new Arenberg Bib Knickers with a blend of lightly insulated and supportive materials to keep you warm and dry during your late season rides. Knowing that many cyclists prefer the versatility provided through a knicker-length design, Hincapie developed the Arenbergs with the same features and fabrics found in its Arenberg tights, only Hincapie cropped them just below the knee. The result is a body layer that works to keep you comfortable in a variety of riding cool- and cold-weather conditions.

Hincapie made the Arenberg bib knickers from the plush and stretchy BodE Thermal Loft fabric in order to provide both comfort and warmth. This material delivers a soft inner lining that utilizes high-loft, fleece fibers to accelerate moisture evaporation. The lining assists in wicking moisture to the quick-drying surface. And not only does the fabric work to keep you dry, but the breathable design also maintains a consistent, insulated temperature for warmth. In fact, Thermal Loft employs one of the heaviest knit structures in the Hincapie lineup in order to ensure heat retention. However, this is complemented by the outer-layer's Lycra and nylon-blended makeup. Accordingly, the bib knickers effectively wick away moisture to keep you riding dry and at a consistent internal temperature.

The Arenberg bib knickers have a malleable, four-way stretch construction that conforms to the contours of your body. And to minimize any shifting during movement, the Arenberg has an exclusive Hincapie Gel-Gripper along the hem of the legs. The Gel-Gripper itself is flexible. However, the anti-slip elastic creates a secure attachment for a perfect fit. The knickers also feature reflective accents throughout the legs for a heightened sense of visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.

And while warmth and fit are important, nothing compares to a quality chamois. Luckily, Hincapie understands this logic and incorporated its Power chamois. This pad uses a four-way stretch, variable thickness construction to compliment Power's most important design feature — the ability to move with your body in motion. By doing this, and adding an antimicrobial treatment, Hincapie eliminated the chafing, abrasion, and bacteria that help lead to the formidable saddle sore. The design also reduces pressure on the perineum region while minimizing the buildup of moisture from friction.

The Hincapie Arenberg Bib Knickers are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

I liked it but had to return it

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I bought the Hincapie Ghisallo bib knicker prior to purchasing this Arenberg bib knicker. I am 5'4" 135lbs 29.5" waist 30" inseam and I always wear Small on Hincapie apparel. I had no issue with the sizing. The Ghisallo and Arenberg seems to be cut similarly. However, there is one area where they are not cut the same - it is the area around the knees. On the Ghisallo, the legs taper down from the thighs to the knee area and then flares out again towards the calves. On the Arenberg, it appears to be a straighter cut. This causes a bit of excess loose material around the sides/back of the knees. Definitely not a deal breaker, but having gotten the better fitting (and even cheaper Ghisallo), I had no choice but to return this. I ended up ordering a 2nd Ghisallo instead.
