We understand that bib shorts are seldom thought of as tough. Instead, images of leather and steel cloud our heads, when really, we should be thinking of Lycra/nylon blends and a chamois. This sounds a little ridiculous, but one ride in the Hincapie Arenberg Bib Shorts will change your perception of strength. Built for the pivotal, brutal movement on the road to Roubaix, the Arenberg is able withstand the torment of northern cobbles and the cold weather that surrounds them.

To combine comfort with warmth, Hincapie made the Arenberg bib shorts from the plush and stretchy BodE Thermal Loft fabric. This material delivers a soft inner lining that utilizes high-loft, fleece fibers to accelerate moisture evaporation. The lining assists in wicking moisture to the quick-drying surface. And not only does the fabric work to keep you dry, but the breathable design also maintains a consistent, insulated temperature for warmth. In fact, Thermal Loft employs one of the heaviest knit structures in the Hincapie lineup inorder to ensure heat retention. However, this is complemented by the outer-layer's Lycra and nylon-blended makeup. Accordingly, the bib shorts effectively wick away moisture to keep you riding dry and at a consistent internal temperature.

The Arenberg bib shorts have a malleable, four-way stretch construction that conforms to the contours of your body. And to minimize any shifting during movement, the Arenberg has an exclusive Hincapie Gel-Gripper along the hem of the legs. The Gel-Gripper itself is flexible. However, the anti-slip elastic creates a secure attachment for a perfect fit. The shorts also feature reflective accents throughout the legs for a heightened sense of visibility in low-light conditions.

And while warmth and fit are important, nothing compares to a quality chamois. Luckily, Hincapie understands this logic and incorporated its Power chamois. This pad uses a four-way stretch, variable thickness construction to compliment Power's most important design feature -- the ability to move with your body in motion. By doing this, and adding an antimicrobial treatment, Hincapie eliminated the chafing, abrasion, and bacteria that help lead to the formidable saddle sore. The design also reduces pressure on the perineum region while minimizing the buildup of moisture from friction.

The Hincapie Arenberg Bib Shorts are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

These shorts are definitely not cut for a lean rider... Figured I'd give the Hincapie brand a shot as I desperately needed some thermal bibs to compliment my knee warmers for chilly days. I typically wear a large in US brands- these arrived- the length was right, but there was lots of room and folds in the waist area (I am 6'1" 170 lbs)... OK sent back and went for the medium, length too short now, but at least they were hugging my thighs. I wanted a thermal bib with longer than average summer shorts length but now I feel like a rider from the 1970s with lots of exposed thigh- not terribly stylish, and not terrible warm... Couple that with a chammy that after a few rides is noticeably out-of-place and noticeably not comfortable, I will probably not look at Hincapie stuff again. If you are a lean, high-mileage rider, my advice is to look elsewhere.

I wish I had read your review prior to first ordering an XL (which is what I wear in euro fit bibs), then again returning the L for the reasons you describe. I was pondering trying a M, but now will not even bother. I am 6'2" and 160 lbs and the L was the proper length but there was too much room for me as well. I'm going to try the Giordana Silverline Super Roubaix and hopefully it is as warm and fuzzy as this one.
