Too tight/small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

My hat size is 7 1/8" = considered a small to medium men's size. This was extremely tight and uncomfortable. I wouldn't make it 10 minutes on a ride before deciding being cold was better.

Cold weather ride must have

Have used my balaclava now on several early Spring rides. Went for a 26 mile ride today with temperatures in upper 30's and a stiff west wind at a steady 20 mph. My entire head, face and neck were warm and protected from those 20 mph winds. Fits comfortably under helmet. A must have for cold weather rides.

Perfect for the job

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've only worn this for one bike ride so far, but my initial reaction is that I love it. The afternoon temps were in the mid 40's with a 10 mph wind. This balaclava kept me warm for my entire afternoon ride and it is comfortable too. It was definitely worth the purchase.

Don't try wearing under your chin

If you can't stand having your mouth covered up, do not buy the Arenberg balaclava. If you try to put the opening below your mouth, or worse yet, below your chin, you are going to blind yourself! The opening's width will narrow down so much that the fabric will go over at least part of one eye. You pull it back so you can see, and within seconds you are blinded again--NOT good for a road cyclist! This balaclava is warm, and if the opening were widened, I would really be happy with it. As it is, I cannot wear mine. It is simply too dangerous.
