Not everyone wants to wear a watch as big as a fist, so Highgear created the Axio Mini Altimeter Watch to give you the navigation tools you need without the bulk. You still get an altimeter that works higher than the highest point on earth, a digital thermometer, barometer, and chronograph to help you find your way. Highgear included altitude alarms to help you find key route-finding points, so you can find your way up and back down again.

Bottom Line: Get more in a smaller package.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

You're good to 50 meters or 155 feet diving, underwater that is.

I really like that it is a smaller watch/altimeter for those of us that have smaller wrists. Or are just female and dont want to put on a man's big bulky watch. But by bringing in the sides, aka, making the viewing area extra small. It was too hard to navigate and read. I do believe they could of kept the same size and just not take up so much room around the circle so as to increase the viewing area.

Worked great 'til it went kayaking...

By:

I bought this watch primarily for backpacking in the mountains, and it worked GREAT. The reported altitude was usually pretty close - VERY close considering it's a barometer-based altimeter. Unfortunately though this watch went to the Great Altimeter Watch Place In The Sky when it went kayaking in the Bahamas with me in November - although it's supposed to be waterproof to 50m, it fogged up, filled with water and ultimately died about halfway into the trip even though it was never submerged more than a few inches while paddling. I was totally bummed, but I may try another one because I'm a woman and I don't have big manly wrists, and as far as I know it's the only altimeter watch out there that isn't so big it has its own zip code.

Thsnks this is exactly what I want to know I don't want to be having to remember to take off my watch when I kayak or swim in the ocean.

It certainly looks as though the slot on the back would take a coin as a wrench to open the case.

Compact and Functional

I got this altimeter watch so I could keep track of my total ascents for a hikes or bike rides. I like that Highgear made the Axio Mini actually pretty mini. It is a good size for my small wrist. I did need to reference the manual, but after a bit of review, use of the watch seems pretty straight forward.

This will log cumulative elevation gain for the time period that the timer is running. The chronograph timer will go for up to 99 hours. Check out the manual for the Axio series here http://www.highgear.com/manuals/english/AXIOseries_IM.pdf.
