The Highgear Axio Max Altimeter Watch works at altitudes up to 30,000 feet, just in case you decide to climb something higher than Everest. Two altitude alarms remind you when you hit key route-finding points, and Highgear also included two time alarms to keep you from sleeping in and missing your summit bid. An integrated digital compass helps you find your way through whiteouts.
The altimeter would constantly change even when I calibrate it to a known altitude. It would change from standard to metric units without me doing anything. It would switch to the alternate time nearly everyday. Compass worked great, thermometer worked great, weather was somewhat useless. Looked great and fit nicely, not too big of a watch face. Easy to read screen. Ultimately I had to send it back because for $140 I expect something that works ALL THE TIME.
Try resetting the software by holding in the (2) left (2) right buttons for 5 seconds then release the electronics should re-boot and set the Altitech back to the factory spec if this method fails go ahead and remove the battery for 5 minutes then re-install.
Call 1-800-446-7587 if the display fails to come back to normal for a return authorization.
Be careful opening anything up. This will often void any warranty the watch came with. I would contact the manufacturer and see what their policy is regarding faulty equipment and see if you can get it exchanged directly.

I got this watch as a replacement watch from the manufacturer when my old watch needed to be sent back 3 times. This one now will not calibrate the compass setting. All in all, I've spent around $50 sending this watch back 5 times (3 times with the old, 2 times with the new).
I'm finally giving up since I can't return the watch where I bought it b/c it's not the same watch that I originally ordered (they discontinued my first watch).
If I could give this product less than a one star rating, I would.
This is a great watch, I replaced a 5.11 Tactical Watch with this guy. I love the band (It dries quick and breathes great), it is light, tough and has a lot of features. If you don't want to drop $300 on a Suunto, grab one of these.
Do you have to do anything to make sure the atlimeter is working correctly? I live in Atlanta, GA where the avarage alt is approx. 1050 ft. My new watch is showing 2464?
Hi Hank. Your Axio Max needs to be calibrated. Calibration instructions can be found on pages 18-19 of your Manual. The elevation at the airport in Atlanta is about 1,000'. I'd say this is a good plave to start. Then, once you are in a place where you know the exact elevation you can re-calibrate.
I actually just adjusted my altitude on my Axio Max last night - it took about 2 minutes. Just check out your users manual or use goggle to pull up the PDF of the users manual and you'll be dialed in no time.
You should be able to manually set the altitude... Then most altimeter watches have way -points so you can set an altitude for a known point you frequent a lot to keep your watch in proper calibration... Any altimeter that relies on barometric pressure and moves a lot will need to be re-calibrated because of pockets of micro-climates where pressure changes but altitude doesn't.... The only kind of altimeter that will always be accurate and not need re-calibration is a GPS enabled altimeter....
