Feeling woozy and wondering if you’ve entered the Death Zone? Or maybe just wondering how much vertical is left until that 10,000-foot pass? Either way, the Highgear ATF8 Altimeter gives you a fast accurate altitude reading, in addition to its compass, barometer, thermometer, and watch functions. Highgear also added standard and ski chronographs to track your vertical progress, and a carabiner clip so you can hang it on your jacket or pack.

Bottom Line: When you head for the hills, trade your iPhone for the ATF8.

Great Product but Easily Damaged

I had this altimeter, and was very happy with it. It was spot-on accurate, easy to use, and really looked nice on my bag during trips. It broke however after about 6 months after purchase, on maybe my tenth or eleventh trip with it, not by falling down a mountain or getting knocked around on a hike, but by hanging on the back of my pack during a long ski day in Maine on a ridiculously cold day. Beware-don't bring this into -20 temps!

Is the carabiner clip plastic? I see in one of the reviews that it broke when cold.

Also, like most LCD crystals, it won't like cold temperatures.

not built for cold

one day at zero degrees and this thing is toast. Why would you build an altimeter that can't take it? Seems like most high altitude climates are rather cold. I'll stick with an analog altimeter from now on. This thing is definitely not built for Colorado.

Manufacturer lists the temperature range as +14 F to +122 F. Seems to imply that they don't want you taking it into freezing conditions. Since it has an LCD display a cold snap could have ruined it

The clip-on sold it for me - what's the point of having a temp sensor on your wrist? Loving it so far. I'll add more as I use it.
