Solid Five-Star!

  • Fit: True to size

I bought this pair of Hestra Winter Forest gloves because my husband's new Hestra Army Leather Wool Terry gloves earned high praises from him and I needed gloves that will keep me warm in Northern Norway and the Swiss Alps in January/February next year.

Over the years and from all over the world, I have bought many pairs of gloves in different materials, designs, and colours, and this is one of the two best looking pairs that I've ever owned. Unfortunately, my other best looking pair was just that, best looking, but ended up a poor performer in single-digit temperature.

My new Hestra gloves are beautiful and classy, and except for a bit tightness around the palm (my hands are in between sizes, with fingers belong to the smaller size and palms to the larger size -- on top of that, my right hand is almost one size larger than my left hand), I could not find anything that I don't like about the gloves. I would have given them four stars just for the aesthetic value alone, but since they are Hestra gloves (explanation below), I have no doubt that they will perform as expected in below-zero temperature, thus the five-star rating.

Hestra, for anyone who doesn't know, is one of the most famous ski glove makers in Europe. A Swedish family-owned company, Hestra has been producing gloves to the specific demand of Swedish and Norwegian ski teams for the last 80 years. The price might seem high for some people, but to quote Mike Douglas, the “Godfather of Freeskiing”, "People need to realize the difference between really good gloves and the rest. Hestra gloves fit well from the first day you wear them and they last much longer than other gloves; it's an investment worth making.”
