Bottom Line: The future of gloves is here from Hestra
Hi, could I use these on a motorbike, are the back of the fingers also heated? And paragliding? If I buy these I want to have a multipurpose glove for that price. Thanks.
It's not a bad glove, but for the price, I cannot recommend it.
The glove is very comfortable with a soft fleece lining. It's light, and the electronics are not intrusive at all. The leather on the outside is very soft, almost like a dress glove that you would wear going to a restaurant on a cold evening. The glove is NOT DURABLE. After about 7 days of use the stitching in one index finger has pulled apart when I got it caught in the binding simply slapping my skis together to carry them. The glove is not bulky at all, like the Black Diamond Guide glove, because it has very little insulation. If the temp is below 35 you will have to use the heater. If the temp is below 20 and there is any wind you will need to have the heater on the highest setting (setting 3). If it's a typical January day in Colorado with the air temp at 10 and the wind chill below 0 these gloves do not cut it.
I bought the gloves specifically for extremely cold days and they don't pass the test because, even though the heating element can get very hot, the glove does not have enough insulation to keep the heat in then the wind chill is 0 or less. In Colorado, the air temp can be 20 while the wind chill is 0.
IMO this is just a luxury glove for someone who doesn't ski in temps below 20, but always has cold hands.
I would return it, but I feel guilty returning a product I damaged, so I'm stuck with them.
I bought the Hestra heater glove and have loved them so far! You can set it to 3 levels of warmth. I have only used it on level ONE and I have cold hands. I set it at TWO for about 20 minutes and it was really too warm. So the heater function will last a long time at the lower levels, so this is good. I have also used the glove without the heater function on warmer days-- 30 degrees at Deer Valley. I say get them! And chat with the Tyler on the website and see if he will give you a discount. I love Backcountry.com!

I bought one for myself and one for my wife last year. i wore mine a total of 12 skiing days. my wife wore it for 3. I liked them but unfortunately, the left glove would flicker off whenever i would move my wrist. if i held it perfectly still with my wrist in extension, it would stay on. i figured this was just a defective glove. then my wife started having problems with her right glove and it would work erratically. sometimes fine, other times not. one glove is a chance occurrence, two is a product defect. i was disappointed, as i liked the gloves otherwise. they appear to be well-made, very cool looking and many people asked what the LED lights were for. at the highest setting, they do keep your hands warm when the temp was above 25 degrees F. But when it got down to -5-20 degrees, even these gloves couldn't keep my fingers warm after 2 hours outside. i'm buying some mittens. if they ever fix these so that they are reliable, i would buy them again. Good news is that Backcountry.com has the best return policy in the business and they are giving a full refund, despite the fact that i bought it in November of 2009 and wore it 12 days. i will never buy anything from anyone else, as long as Backcountry has it in stock.
I love my non heater Hestra gloves. However the Heater seems to have its problems. I purchased these for my wife and unfortunately she is on her third pair in three weekends. The heating of the glove seems to work as promissed however the construction is lacking. The first pair was returned due to problems with charging wires fraying. The second pair was returned due to the wrist cuff separating from the glove after only one day of use. We were lucky enough to have a ski shop near the mountain that carries a good supply of the glove, however they have now exhausted their supply of size 7. It's a great idea and I can vouch for the quality of Heliski glove, but this one is a work in process.
Got these for my daughter. She wore them this Christmas break snowboarding in Montana in -15 degree weather. Hands were the only thing that was nice and toasty
It's important to constantly be changing the temp settings throughout the day to preserve the battery. MAKE SURE TO CHARGE AND DISCHARGE THE BATTERY AT LEAST TWO TIMES THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER.
These gloves are of high quality construction and have kept my hands from freezing in -19 Celsius temperatures on the ski slops here in Sweden. They look very cool when powered up and get allot of attention and questions from other gadget admirers. These gloves will not keep your hands toasty oven warm in -19 Celsius temperatures but they will keep your hands comfortable while others without them will be complaining about the cold. The batteries are light weight and are unnoticeable when looking at the gloves. The battery life is true to advertisement. 12hr for setting 1,and 5.5hr for setting 2 and 2.5 hr for setting 3. As I stated earlier in the title these gloves are expensive but they are worth it. If you like warm hands and a little attention, these gloves are for you.
keith, your best bet will be to email customer service directly or use live chat during business hours. they rarely answer questions in the product sections. cheers.
Write your question here...Has anybody tried thes gloves? I have read mixed reviews on the others on the market. This is a fair hunk of change and would like to hear some feedback. Thanks.
Gene, Have used so far so good. They are the Thermic system which is the same folks that have made boot heater for years. the others that failed used diffeent systems. Hestra does have a great warranty policy so if you have problems you can be sure they will take care of it.
