Why We Like The Hestra Falt Guide Glove

If you spend your work days on your skis or ski like it's your job, you can't do without the Hestra Guide Leather Glove. This all-leather glove is a little stiff out of the box, but once it's broken in you won't ski without it. Hestra designed the durable glove with a work cuff that lacks a zipper or snap closure; it's easy to get on and off to tie lines or dig through your pockets. The hardwearing glove has a removable wool liner you can leave in your car on warm days and dry it out in the patrol shack over lunch.

Fantastic gloves!

I have worn Hestra gloves for years. They have worn extremely well and I have three models including the Falt Guide Glove. I bought this glove for bushcraft and have been using it in Colorado for snowshoeing, bushcraft, and skiing. They are super in all conditions above 10F. Super fit. Super liners. Amazing leather. Well worth the money.

Good Glove/Bad Liner & No Handcuffs

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The leather outer of this glove is excellent, with high quality and soft leather. The cuff is also a good length if you want some wrist/jacket coverage but don't want the bulk of a full powder cuff. Having a removable liner is a great versatility feature, and it allows you to dry both the leather shell and liner much faster. That's important for a non-waterproof glove. This glove falls short in its liner, where quality is an issue. The first pair I received had a large hole in the liner by the index fingertip. Backcountry gladly replaced them, but the second pair also had a small hole in the palm (see pic). I emailed Hestra, and they refused to exchange for a different liner despite the repeat issues on brand new products. One other nice to have feature at this price would be handcuffs/wrist straps. Sizing runs small, consistent with my other Hestra products. Order a size up if on the fence.

NEW VERSION IS LOWER QUALITY

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After reading many stellar reviews online, I was super excited when I first received these gloves. However, the leather was already tearing after taking these gloves on a single ski day at the resort. Unfortunately, Hestra refuses to replace the gloves under warranty. So now I'm stuck with $185 gloves that are falling apart faster than my $40 Burton's. These gloves are not warm or durable. Hestra likely has changed its materials or manufacturing.

Great Glove After Break-In

Familiarity:

After using these as my primary ski gloves for 40+ days last season, I have been very happy and found these to be worth the higher cost. Initially, I worried I'd gotten a size too small, but after several days of use they broke in and now fit me perfectly. With proper care (drying after use, regular leather conditioning) I can see these lasting me a LONG time as a ski glove. The wool liners are warm and easy to remove for drying. I had cold hands once all season, and it was -20 F with windchill, no handwarmers. Beyond that these were toasty and super durable, and also look great. My only recommendation would be for anyone who wants to use an additional glove liner to size up at least a size if not two. They are a snug fit even after breaking in.

I have two pair ? one bought ten years ago, and one bought last season (with a PSIA discount). The old pair has a tiny tear in the gauntlet where there must have been a fault in the leather, but the seams are tight and perfect, palms and fingers are intact. I use it as an all-round work glove, now (stacking wood, snow blowing, shoveling) and for hiking in the winter woods ? it should last many years still. The newer pair I ski in. They're warm for a glove; My hands run cold, but these were fine in the teens and below, with a hand warmer stuffed in (no hand warmer pocket, btw). I have a normal palm with shortish fingers; size 8 is perfect for me (they call it a "large," but . . .) Did I mention you can replace the liners indefinitely? I'd buy them again, but unfortunately (!) they seem not to wear out, a beautiful, hard-wearing, high-quality glove. Some expensive things are worth the money.

Money Well Spent

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I am always hesitant to purchase high ticket items. (this may not be high ticket gloves to some people) I did a lot of research, as everyone should do, and came across Hestra. Finally, I settled on the Falt Guide Glove due to its versitile nature. I bought these in Feb. 2019 and haven't had to deal with cold numb hands since. They are rugged and haven't shown much abrasion at all from winter backpacking and snowboarding usage.
