This sport touring boat excels on moving water and loves hauling gear to camp. It seems to become more stable the more gear you load it with. It has some rocker which makes it easy to negotiate some current and eddies, dodge rocks, turn in the wind, and waves. The added rudder (not everyone needs it) will help increase tracking ability on the flat stretches. Those wanting a more sporty kayak for turning, maneuvering for lakes and rivers will like this boat.
does the pisgah come with a rudder or do you have to install

Bought both of mine with the rudders installed. It's about $200 more but rudders are really needed if you don't want to correct every other stroke in a wind or current. The rudders on my 14s are somewhat different in type and how connected to the boat. You could do it yourself but worth it both cost and effort to buy the boat with it in place. Remember it's not just the rudder you are dealing with but also the foot control mountings on the shell, cables and rudder raise and lower controls. Take a look at your local kayak place. You will see what I mean. Paddle on!

I ordered a PISGAH 14 on the advice of a friend. The service from this site is terrific. They are a 4.0 group of folks doing a fabulous job!! The PISGAH 14 I received was defective. The seat locking mechanism was riveted into the incorrect position. This is a flaw that even the most primitive quality control would have caught. No more Liquid Logic/Heritage boats for me. The PISGAH is garage junk.

This is my first experience with a kayak, and I really enjoy this boat.
I took it on a 4 day kayaking trip loaded with gear, and it was wonderful. The seat with which it is equipped was extremely supportive-not one muscle complained-ever! I have used this on small and large rivers, and it's great on both. It maneuvers very easily. I really like the storage, although one of them has a small leak. I have already called the dealer. I highly recommend this boat!

I am not positive, but I think I read that it was 350#. I just purchased a Pisgah in Aug. and I love it. It has plenty of storage and all my friends keep saying they can not believe how quiet it is in the water. It just glides, doesn't push. I felt a little wobbly at first, but the secondary stability is great. I can lean it without fear of tipping.

Thomas, If you'd gone to a dealer and actually seen what you were buying this wouldn't have happened.Did you contact the manufacturer about it? Did you realize that maybe Backcountry is buying blems and selling them as 1st quality boats? Did Backcountry help you out on the problem?

I bought a Pisgah used. It did not come with a rudder. I tried contacting Heritage/Liquid Lojic for help with a bracket. They said i had to go through a dealer. I tried two different outfiter/dealers. . .neither wanted to help me. Heritage told me the bracket to order which I finally did through another dealer. It was not the right one. I gave Heritage/Liquid Lojic my boat's serial number and even sent pics. The lady blew me off and said I could sent the part back but there would be a restocking fee. bottom line: good boat but a company that does not care about their customers and keeps very poor records of the boats they produce.
